Rob,

I don't get excited over points.. I'm already Maharajah (top tier) at Taj Mahal, so points don't do squat for me.

As for 3X CASHBACK, yes, I will choose to go on days in which I get even a little bit of an edge back.

Look at these 2 scenarios:

1.) I go play tomorrow, take a pre-set amount of money with me for my session, regular cashback.

2.) I go play today, take the exact same amount of money with me, 3X cashback.

Who wouldn't pick option 2 if you could play the exact same machines you were going to play during regular cashback days?

As long as you don't change your playing style (which I pointed out in another post in another thread..) based on comps/cashback, it is to your advantage to play on days when you can get more.. am I wrong??  I never play longer or change the way I play just because of comps..

Do not waste your time explaining yourself to him because he knows everything. A shame that he runs and hides though, when he gets nailed.

Me. Neither option is any more attractive than the other.

What if there were no slot club card? What WOULD you DO?

Rob,

If there were no slot club, then I would play just as I do right now.  All I was trying to say was that if I am going to play anyway, why not get the most out of that play.  That's all the slot club is to me.  It's not an excuse to go to the casino.  I'll go there anyway..  So if I can some extra cash for free, why not?

Are you saying you don't belong to any slot clubs?

Rob,

To put it another way..

Player A goes to the casino, takes $1000 with him to play with, he plays through all the money, hits a few things, leaves dead even..

Player B goes to the casino, takes $1000 with him to play with, he plays through all the money, hits a few things, leaves dead even..

Player A and B did the same EXACT thing..  but Player A belongs to the slot club and gets some cash back (probably $50 or so on that amount of money...) and Player B doesn't belong.  Player A now has $50 more than Player B.

I am Player A..  I don't change my style based on the comps, but if I'm gonna play anyway, I'm getting my cashback...

Of course I understand what you're saying Mike and of course I use slot club cards at times. The only point I question is if you're going in to win money TODAY--which every player always wants to do regardless of the spin the math people put on it--a 1X point day should be no different than a 3X point day. How do you know you won't win more money if you went on the 1X point day anyway? One of my keys to consistent success is in how irrelevant slot club benefits are to me.

One of the biggest jokes I see when driving around LV is whenever there's a holiday weekend coming up Sam's Town uses their ENTIRE gigantic billboard to advertise "6X point days from Thurs. to Sun." Do you think they're doing that because they feel a little kinder and want to share their profits for a few days? It's simply a rope 'em in deal, and they do this stuff just to get as many APers in as possible since they know from experience these pathological players will bring more cash than usual with them BECAUSE of the points. I never play on such days because I know the machines can hit at any time, and to play into the casino's hands like that is exceedingly wrong.

Rob,

I understand what you are saying as well.  Working in the casino industry, I certainly understand that the casinos only offer those promotions to rope people in.  Heck, at Showboat they gave away crockpots last week and over 2400 of them were given away!  When I used to work in valet, I got the same phrase over and over again.. "I just had to come get my free gift."  These people would drive 2 hours or more just to get a stupid crockpot, can opener, etc.. it is unreal what power these promotions really do have.

As for club points, they don't really have the same effect on most people, at least in AC.  The casinos in AC really don't push the points as much as the casinos in Vegas.  They are more geared towards giveaways, tournaments, and cashback.  The only promotion that is really useful to me is the cashback.  I don't need a crockpot or a can opener, I'll do the slot tournaments/video poker tournaments if I happen to be there that day playing, but the only times I will plan a trip around a promotion is on the 2X and 3X cashback days that Taj frequently does (At least 4 or 5 times per month they run 2X or 3X cashback.)  It fits perfectly for me because I usually play about 1 once per week.

This month alone I earned more cashback than my weekly salary at work because of the doubling and tripling.  I play the same machines I play when it is just regular cashback, play the same way, play the same amount, etc..

Last week I played during a 2X cashback day and I ended up hitting my session goal after only 1 hour.  I know a lot of people that would have stayed and played just because of the 2X cash, but I left.  I'm there to make money, not get cashback.  That's just a perk that helps me choose what casino to go to.

I used to play the same games at Tropicana with the same amount of sessions each month.  Tropicana doesn't do any kind of cashback doubling/tripling.. I averaged about $500 or so per month in cashback, depending on how quickly I hit my session win/loss goal.  Since I switched to Taj, my cashback has gone up to $800+.. a nice little gain for doing the exact same thing I was doing at Trop.

I do understand what you are saying though, Rob.  Like I said, I see it every day working in the casino.  The majority of people see promotions as "Oh well, I lost $1000, but I got a brand new crockpot to take home!! WOO HOO!!"  But not everyone does this.  If someone has the patience, the willpower to leave when you hit the goal no matter what the promotion is, and the knowledge of what promotion can boost your EV when played correctly, it really can be to your advantage.

Unfortunately, the easiest (600Miles) Casinos for me to get to are in AC. Since these trips are not very frequent, it absolutely makes sense to plan them around a Giveaway(?). My neighbors and family have found some of them quite useful. Jewerly, luggage, dish sets, etc.
It does not change the way I play.Period.
