Best VP in Nevada

Post by mmahon6 »

Everyone thinks Vegas is the best place on earth for Video Poker. Well it used to be maybe three or four years ago. If you are looking for some really good full pay machines and some very good paybacks on progressives, then start trying Mesquite and Laughlin, Nevada. Two of the best places to play in Laughlin are the Golden Nugget and the Ramada Express. The best place in Mesquite is Si Redd's. My wife and I were in Laughlin last weekend and withdrew $500.00 from the ATM when we first arrived. We did not return to the ATM the entire weekend (Thursday-Sunday), played to our hearts content and still went home with close to $11,000.00. We play the dollar and five dollar machines. My wife got two Royals and multiple quad Aces. I got multiple quad aces with a kicker and numerous deuce, tres and fours with a kicker.

Vegas is still good if you will stay off the Strip. Too many people come in to visit and are drawn to the Strip where the tables are bad. Fremont Street and Henderson are decent if you will look and think before playing.

But I agree with you about Ramada Express in Laughlin. They have some good machines and the lucky karma just seems to flow in there . I am the one who hit the $73K STP there in 2004. If you look hard you can find my handsome photo! I also hit back to back Royals there but unfortunately I was only playing dollars. I also know of several other players who have hit nice jackpots there. However...before you pack your gold pick and rush to Laughlin...I also know some people who have busted consistently there.

As I play a short term strategy, I don't look at paytables as much as I look at prompt service on jackpots and comfort and convenience, plus a place where I can breathe (non-smoker). This is not to say that I will play somewhere where they are ripping you off with bad paytables. This is a matter of principle, not practicality. Some of the rip-off towers of gold on the Strip do not deserve a single visit from serious VP players!!!

Ramada Express in Laughlin and any of the Stations in the Vegas area are the best. There are some dinky places downtown that are also good.

Rascal ,
$73K wow, That is enough for me to almost pay off my double wide and still have some change. What denominations were you on? and what was your multiplier if you recall?
You mention you play short term strategy. Do you mind sharing it with your fellow forum members? Cause I can use all the help I can get. Seriously
what is short term strategy and how is it different? Are your holds different and do you change games and denominations?
Tell us tell us please please pretty please.
Thanks

"If you recall"  Ha ha, yes I do just happen to recall. Just by coincidence. Actually, it is engraved in my memory until the day I die, and maybe even into hereafter. DDB, 10 play, $1 denom, multiplier of 8, dealt 4 aces. The 73k is the total jackpot plus what I had left in credits.
Short term just means I recognize that I am gambling, not performing an extensive Nobel Prize-winning mathmatical calculation. I take chances, play hunches, go for possible jackpots over sure-thing lesser hands. I rarely stay in a casino for more than 2 or 3 hours. I think Bob Dancer is wonderful, but he's into math and I'm into gambling. Playing a VP machine for endless hours in order to squeak out a 2% profit margin is my idea of boring. I would rather play highly volatile games, lose 8 times out of 10, but on the 2 times I win I shoot for taking enough to turn an overall profit. So far I am ahead, not by very much, but ahead.

Cangrats! That must have been so exciting. my husband and I have discovered the DDB STP as well. But we only play 3 line .25 denom. It either is great or HORRIBLE!! We will sometimes play Deuces if we are doing really bad. We are addicted!

You have just been lucky.  Most of the pros in Vegas get a 1 to 2% advantage doing it just the opposite (hunches??) and make $100,000 plus a year.  Do the math.  If you have $10,000,000 coin in a year with a 1% advantage you earn $100,000.  With a 2% house advantage you lose (DID WE ALL GET $200,000).  Its all about pay tables.  There is no such thing as short term strategy or long term luck.  Unfortunately, the opportunities to make significant money are drying up in video poker.  All the Colorado casinos cut their cash back, promotions and pay tables this summer thanks to the brilliant new Colordo law that allows smoking only in casinos, not bars or restaurants.  Supply and demand rule and the demand in LV these days is absurd.

to many people willing to play machines with poor pay tables so the casinos can get away with it also Mr dancer has educated every tourist so the average house retention has declined Mr dancer has hurt the good players. Jean Scott has helped the tourist with coupons and video poker vs slots without hurting the good players

Ramada Express in Laughin truly has the good karma for me.  I got my first royal on a $1 machine there many years ago, and just got back from there last week where I caught the 4aces w/o a face dealt for $7900.
 God bless America.

For those of you who enjoy the Ramada, soon to be Tropicana in Laughlin... I recommend the River Palms! Great, old video poker machines that made a bad trip out of town much easier!
