It won't be long now....

Fla. senators to host public hearing on gaming
The Florida Senate Gaming Committee is hosting a public hearing on the future of gambling in the state on Wednesday. The state senators will also hold three other hearings at locations around the state. Lawmakers are reconsidering allowing casinos in the state after voting against them in 2012.

Good luck.  Texas legislators have been mulling it over for some time now while all of the potential revenue is going to Louisiana, Oklahoma,  and other places.  In this hyper-puritanical state of ours we finally just this year can go to our local grocery store to buy a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine.

In our state rather than bringing in revenues through casino gambling, they would rather build toll roads with tax payer dollars and make taxpayers pay for them again if they wish to use them.  Will be pulling for you and hoping Florida ramps up their efforts in regards to casino gambling.  Don't they already have some casino gambling there on Indian reservations?

Yes - the Seminole Tribe has exclusive rights in Florida for Class III gaming currently, as long as it is on one of their reservations. As soon as the money is right , I see that arrangement changing.

There are three large investor groups, one domestic and two foreign, that have bought up property in South Florida in anticipation of the laws changing. They would build destination resorts, including golf, night clubs and gaming, with places like South Beach and the sugar-sand beaches down the street.

I think it would attract some sizeable tourist trade.

Probably not in our lifetime.

It would take away from Texas Lotto, Texas Scratch-off, oh and all those private poker games. So at this point Pinnacle Gaming (L'Auberge) owns the San Antonio horse track and option on property in Galveston. Tillman Fertita's (Golden Nugget) who owns major property in his hometown of Galveston and adopted hometown of Houston is ready to move.

A couple of news nuggets to keep us dreaming.

Will Texas ever cash in on casino gambling?

Adding casinos to racetracks in Texas could create 75,000 jobs, show $8.5 billion in statewide economic growth and benefit 40 industries including agriculture, construction and tourism.

Casinos at Texas racetracks could generate $1 billion in taxes each year.
Texans already spend more than $2.5 billion a year at casinos in states near Texas.

Texas Gaming Association

According to some estimates, Texans spend more than $4 billion in other states on casino gaming. Over 80 percent of Texans live within a three hour drive of a casino, not including horse and greyhound racetracks.
According to the most recent comprehensive data available, in 2007, over 2.6 million Texans visited Las Vegas spending a total of $3.8 billion during their stay in the Las Vegas market.

Getting ever closer....

Fla. gambling expansion could create 38,000 jobs
Florida officials are estimating 38,000 jobs will stem from expanding gambling in the state. The state Senate Committee on Gaming plans to meet in January to further discuss the issue. A proposal to expand gambling would allow six new casinos in the Sunshine State.

Whoa, that will surely intensify the state of confusion, FL. (Not exactly my original words!) I do approve of the competition they will give those crowded gambling day cruises with their antiquated machines and almost buffets!

Billy, It's not as quick and easy ( or profitable as you might think.) Ohio was the last last of the holdouts between WV, PA, MI, IN, IL. Took about 2 yrs from the time they voted for it, till the first casino opened. It has taken some business away from neighboring states, but saw that their profits are less than they expected. It is nice having regular slots and vp within an hours drive for us, but not like I'm up there everyday or anything. Comps are terrible, but I guess that's anywhere these days. Just too many casino's competing for an ever shrinking pot of players kati
