That's because 95% of recreational video poker players don't have any idea what those numbers at the top of the machine are for and don't care.  It's
amazing to me that casinos are so concerned about a few players gaining an
advantage when they make so much money on the hordes of people who just wing
it. I can understand a casino manager pulling the odds back on high limit
machines, but why would you cut the odds on quarters?  No real professional
 is going to play quarters, you can
panhandle more money than that in a day.

And very fast players probably could average close to $10/hr on full pay deuces. That's why they don't offer full pay deuces for more than quarters.

It comes down to what you want out of sitting down. Do you want to see the cards and push the buttons for a length of time? Do you want to qualify for a room or a meal? Do you want to hoot and holler with a friend? Do you want to squeeze every .001 EV possible? There is no right and no wrong answer. It is a personal thing that even changes for the same person session to session. My wife and I play as near to computer perfect as we can. We practice for hours every week. We squeeze EV and always play full coin. That is what we enjoy. It is not work for us. It is how we have fun together. That being said, I never look at another player, or read about another player and judge them. Its their money and their fun. If they are playing and having a good time, they are doing what is right for them.

  Good comment.  There is no "correct" way to play video poker because we all have different definitions of what constitutes a win. There is a mathematically correct hand for each game and hand, beyond that it's different for all of us. Personally, I hate losing more than I enjoy the thrill of a big win. When I total up all my wins and loses at the end of the year, my goal is to lose as little a possible.  Being positive is even better!
