I love this game. Came out ahead more times than I do on other games.

concerning the game hyper bonus poker, as well as crazy times poker and multi streak poker; these games seem to be a variation on Good times and Big times poker.  In each case, is the strategy for playing each machine  the same?  Should the pay schedule be the same as in the base versions of VP?

Anyway, I was at the Hollywood Casino in IN over the weekend.  I walked up to one of these Hyper games, set the game to TDB, at the 25 cent denomination.  On the first deal I was dealt 3 aces.  I discarded the other cards and on one hand drew the forth ace.  Along with that I had a multiplier of 10, so I ended up with a W2G.  Life is rough.

Sometimes you can use the same strategy (Hyper Bonus, Super Times Pay, etc.) and sometimes you don't (Multi Strike, Ultimate X, etc.) It depends.Almost always, playing max coins (including the bonus) returns more than the base game by itself. "How much" extra varies. In Hyper Bonus, for example, the extra varies from 0.01% to 1.08%. A good resource is www.wizardofodds.com, where many versions of video poker and other games are discussed. Each casino has its own philosophy on what pay schedules to set. For a quarter game, their philosophy might be they will offer the highest pay schedule so long as it's under 99%. When the bonus feature adds enough to no longer be within that philosophy, the casino will switch to a lower pay schedule.Every casino has a different rule of thumb. The South Point advertises 10,000 games returning more than 99%. Some casinos have NO games paying that much. You have to check out each machine to know for sure. Is it time consuming? Of course. But it's worth it if you find a good game.Bob

Bob, would you say the 10,000 games at South Point returning more than 99% is as good as it gets in LV or Laughlin, off the top of your head? And you are of course referring to 10,000 VP games, right?

No casino is better than all others in every category. Different casinos are better at certain denoms and games. In terms of the number of vp games over 99%, yes the SP has more than anybody else. In terms of games over 100%, the SP has zero --- and some local casinos in Vegas have them. If you play the 100% games you are penalized in terms of they require more coin-in per point, you often get no mailers or other promotions, and if thats all you play, often you are kicked out. That said, for some low stakes players, playing the 100% games elsewhere is a better deal. For me, the SP is a major place I play. I play $1 9/6 DDB Ten Play Quick Quads on 2x point days, and NSU for $2 or less otherwise. Were I a $1.25 per hand player, I'd go find a casino that offered Full Pay Deuces Wild (which is NOT the SP) and take the $6-$10 per hour that that game provides. Since I want more than that, I need to play games with a lower EV but higher slot club + mailers + promotions. Also, I'm playing in Vegas as a local --- so how generous the various casinos are with room comps is largely irrelevant. How well the SP competes with respect to that --- compared to other casinos --- I have no personal experience.Bob

Also to add to the great info that Bob gave, it's also worth noting that Hyper Bonus poker will NEVER offer a 99%+ game according to the Wizard of Odds site and IGT's media sheet. The best game offered is 9/5 JoB with 3.14 average multiplier (98.77%). The worst game offered is 7/5 DDB with a 3.07 average multiplier (96.37%).

Really great information. So Quick Quads is the only game you play that provides you with the return you desire? Is it safe to say you avoid Ultimate X, Multistrike, Super Times Pay, etc, or do you consider these as good plays at times?

Mainly the quick quads is the best game available there for ten play dollars which allows tons of coin in on the promo days that makes it positive. They do have 9/6 DDB w/ultimate x too, but it's only for quarters.

I've seen Ultimate x in 9/6 and I've gotten burned on those more than once, but it is a fun high risk high reward game.
