Niagra Falls, Ont.

Post by SBUR »

This is my first post on the forum and I'm hoping some of you might have some information. I am going to be in Niagra Falls, Ontario Canada in September and plan on playing some VP at the Falls View casino. Is there any difference between the machines in Canada vs Vegas? Is there anything I should be aware of in playing VP in Canada? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. SBUR

Welcome to the Forum. While I have never been to a Canadian casino, I understand that you need to deal with currency exchange rates. I have been told that you may get a better deal at a bank versus the casino.

Also, I understand that there is no US tax reported for over $1200 wins in VP/slots, so go get 'em.

Video poker in Ontario is the same as in the US. The machines are from the same manufacturers, and they play the same. Assuming that they are in compliance with Ontario regulations (I believe they are) they are random.

Unfortunately, the video poker pay tables at Fallsview are awful. If you are looking to play some serious video poker, you would be better off slipping across the Rainbow Bridge to Seneca Niagara.

Casino winnings are not taxable in Canada, so Billyjoe is right - there is no paperwork associated with big jackpots.

Since I'm from Ontario, I have never changed currency at Fallsview, so I don't know how their rates compare to the banks. I do know that Seneca Niagara offers exchange rates (for Canadian$ to US ones) that are as good as the banks'.

Casinos in Ontario are totally smoke-free. And, alcoholic drinks are not comped, so if you're a smoker and a drinker, you won't be pleased.
