Discuss all things Las Vegas. Hotels, restaurants, good deals, airfares, cabbies, conventions, shows, etc.

But with spirit don't you have to pay extra for almost everything including carry on luggage, priority this and that, and even a small surcharge to breathe oxygen on the plane?

cook, We slept really well the entire flight and therefore did not notice uncomfortable seats to sleep in. In prep for that, run around Vegas like a crazy person for a week and swim every day in 95-100 degree weather. Visit Red Rock Canyon, Carroll Hall Shelby's car factory tour/museum near Mandalay Bay, stand waiting for the Bellagio fountain to perform and see the DaVinci exhibit at Venetian. Sleep happens! You, too, will sleep when the opportunity/need arises! chatty, Spirit likes to have you feel like you are not paying for others luggage, etc and thus lower rates but has to charge extra for extras...SO, that is precisely why you pack lightly, so your luggage fits under the seat in front of you. Take your own snacks, preferably ones that are not banned from air travel and do not reserve seats, to avoid extra fees. Some peeps take an empty water bottle and fill it after security check.

I can do a 4 day trip with a overnight, carry-on bag but my wife does not understand the concept of packing lightly. We mostly fly free compliments of CET (7 star trips, junket flights, northern nevada air reimbursements). We are flying to Kansas City via Southwest in February to use up a gift card before we misplace it. Some of our non-gambling friends fly Spirit whenever the choice presents itself. They must be a fairly decent airline as I saw just this morning on CNBC that they are currently the most profitable airline.

Check out web site: goinglikelynn.com and her you tube: Travel with one bag. Lynn Portnoy, Travel Specialist, lives in the metro Detroit area. She used to have an upscale dress shop and has written three paperbacks: Going Like Lynn: New York, Going Like Lynn: Paris and Going Like Lynn: Florence. She traveled to these destinations to buy for her shop. At a library presentation on traveling with one bag, she advised peeps to take all black clothing to mix and match for the occasion. Take old T shirts to sleep in and discard them en route. Set tops/shirts down, flat on top of each other and roll them up to conserve space and minimize wrinkles. Ditto for slacks, etc. It works! These tips all help when packing lightly to fly Spirit! Use a baggie instead of a cosmetic bag or shaving kit. You, too, can fly Spirit and not pay extra for luggage! No need for wheeled luggage!

Thank you Marie. I will pass that website on to my wife. I bet there is some useful information there. Another reason we mainly fly American is b/c there is a regional airport close to where we live. We have to connect at DFW to get to where we are going but the regional airport saves us a lot of driving. On the Southwest flight we are taking it is about a 2 and a half hour drive to Love Field . The regional we fly out of only goes to DFW or Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport or whatever it is called now.

"Where's your luggage?" asked my son, as I stood with a purse in one hand and a small back pack in the other. "This is it!" I replied. I used to come home from a trip with several outfits I had not even worn. The new me wears one set of jewelry on a trip and I do not have to worry about where the rest is during the trip! The advantage of traveling lightly: no room for a shopping spree AND more $$ for that bankroll by saving on travel and not buying stuff I do not need! I can do that at home, discreetly.

Not thrilled with Spirit, either. All the add ons make it not any better than others. Price is a come-on.

Spirit Air would be my last choice.  They charge for everything and their baggage fees are ridiculous.  They would be my very last choice.  Seats are very small and cramped.
