The Meadows (Washington, PA)

Post by WVRadar »

Played at the Meadows yesterday and noted several changes in the Video Poker machines. Video Poker used to be available in 4 locations on the main floor (High Limit Areas excluded) but I could only find them in two places: near the Pacers Bar and next to the Headliner Bar (used to be Silks).

Still plenty of machines but the paytables have been reduced. 8/5 Jacks or Better were hard to find. 7/5 and 6/5 Jacks or Better mostly. The best Bonus Poker paytables appeared to be on the Spin Poker Machines at 7/5. Most of the machines are Game King Multi-Game and Multi-Denomination (.25/.50/1.00). I was amazed to see that the payouts for quarters and dollars were the same. I could barely believe my eyes when I wandered into the High Limit Area, checked Jacks or Better on a Game King ($1 and up, I think there were 4 or 5 choices) and the paytable was 6/5.

Had a pretty good promotion for food (Bistecca Steakhouse excluded). You got one dinner free (up to $20) if you bought one. We ate at the buffet and it was pretty good. Also got $5 off the dinner buffet because it snowed, making the cost for two dinners $14.95. I think the snowday discount is available Monday thru Thursday.

Practically had the bar to ourselves. Had a special on Strohs 12 ounce cans for $2.00. I used to drink this beer all the time in my younger days. Also talked to the bartender and learned that the bar in the bowling center downstairs stocks a lot of Craft Brews. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the bar out because there was a Private Party going on. We'll check it out on our next trip.

Even with the changes to Video Poker, The Meadows is still my favorite in this area. It has better VP than Rivers Casino, Mountaineer or Wheeling Island. The next best casino for me is the Horseshoe Cleveland but that's about a two and a half hour drive from where I live.

Good report! It's unfortunate that PA taxes slots/VP so high. Makes the casino very weary to offer a good game, imo. If I would go, I'd be tempted to brush the dust off my BJ basic strategy card. Lol
