Tedlark's eagerness to engage in conflict, ANY conflict, is what sent this thread down this path:HERE is what I wrote in my ORIGINAL post which he seized upon to make "hay" (simply because I destroyed and embarrassed him in the Super Bowl thread and exposed him for the hypocritical deceptive misanthrope he is):"You know, it is so bad with AC's city government finances that I could
see even the FEDERAL government having to get involved........I do not
know how that would play out, but IF the New Jersey state government
cannot straighten out the finances, it could wind up in FEDERAL hands,
unless they just want to BLOT out the whole destination and pretend it
never existed!"If you bother to read what I said, it simply implies that......IF no other possible solution to AC's problems could be found at the state and local level, then clearly the only other POSSIBLE source of help or solution would have to come from the Feds (either that or the city evaporates and stops functioning in a cloud of chaos.)   And I clearly CONCEDE that I do not have an exact scenario or script as to how this would all play out.....it is just a generalization and speculation on my part.......yeeeesh.    FOr others to carry on and attack me because of this statement is pathetic......Detroit is actually a good example SUPPORTING my point......the Federal government WATCHED that situation closely, but never stepped in simply because IT DID NOT need to.....ultimately, Detroit's situation was brought under control (but not really "fixed") through measures of the city and state government and with private business and industry kicking in their help as well.........but Detroit is NOT Atlantic City (and vice versa).....AC does not have anywhere near the diverse business and industry Detroit has to draw upon to help fix itself.    The obvious difference in SIZE, as well as proximity  AND relationship/impact upon other neighboring cities also means Detroit has MUCH more in its favor than AC.   In other words, AC has very little in the way of a "FALL back position or resources", which again means if the State of New Jersey cannot (or will not save it), then it is up to the feds.

DB, i do not think it was other(s)(plural), that attacked you.  if AC was an isolated case, i would agree that the feds may come in and assist. but, there are just too many state/local governments that have financial problems, to rescue all of them.  the big problem, as i see it, is that few will learn the real lessons about AC. the country has plenty of empty towns that relied on one company or industry and did not change/adapt.another problem are the politicans, many have commented that all that government money collected was likely wasted/abused. and, i know you feel for the employees, but, they also hold a great deal of responsibility. i mentioned once before that a world wide travel magazine's readers voted AC, as one of the top 5 worst cities to visit. and AC is a tourist city. casino management, no doubt also holds a great deal of responsibility.
