Metropolis, Ill VP pay tables?

Post by SDLester »

Has anyone been to Metropolis Ill since they moved the casino into their hotel and retired their riverboat? Was wondering if they have any decent pay tables on the Video Poker machines. They used to be horrible. Thanks!

I didn't know they did that! I haven't been there in a few years, but I kind of like the boats; there aren't many around anymore (I still miss the old Casino Queen boat in E. St. Louis). When I've played Metropolis in the past I played Double Deuces and the pay table was decent, but that's about it.

I could be wrong but I doubt the casino was moved into the hotel. Rather I'm thinking they built onto the hotel and they put the casino on a "barge" and styled the barge like a building. Under Illinois law; casinos are required to be located "on water" and as of yet this requirement has not been changed. Illinois' newest casino, River's Casino near O'Hare Airport, is a barge and they built a "pool"for it to sit in.

Those Illinois casinos that started out as riverboats then transitioned into the barges, i.e. Harrah's Joliet, have had the riverboats sold and relocated out of state.

That's what the Casino Queen did in E. St. Louis IL. It's not on a barge, though. The casino is a few hundred yards from the river, but it's on a floating floor, which is enough to skirt the rules. It's not a 'boat in a moat' like some others. Check out the aerial view:

From looking at the Harrah's Metropolis website it looks like they might have done a similar thing. The pics make it look pretty boring and generic, but that's pretty much par for the course these days.

It looks like they do refer to the Casino Queen floor as a "concrete barge" (I was thinking of real barges, like some of the 'riverboats' are built on). Apparently the CQ was the first to do it in Illinois. There's a seam when you cross onto the casino floor from the buffet/bar area and even entering the restrooms on the far side of the floor, but other than that you'd never know it was on water.
