Follow up on Video Poker tournament

Post by wilcoxfun »

Thanks for information first off about the tournaments.

I went and played at Caesars of Indiana in their Millionaire Maker Video Poker Thursday October 11.  It was held on the first floor of the casino. They had set off double double bonus machines for the tournament. It was five minutes of play and there were two rounds.

To play a tournament like this you need to be fast but also toss some stuff that might of normally kept.  I did that in the second round as in the first round I had kept two pairs and never got a full house. So in the second round I tossed one of the pairs and kept like fours (got four of a kind). So it was a good play and helped me get moving up the standings.

The first round I did very poorly with 380 as a score.  Everyone sitting around me had at least 600 so I knew I was going to lose the tournament. I had heard that one person had four aces and the kicker.  So I thought that person is way out in front.

Also heard after the tournament that one person had a royal flush. I think the winner had something in the area of 6,000 points. So it takes a good hit or two to win this.

I went to play the second round and sat down with the idea I am going to throw away if necessary.  I was very pleased as I hit a full house to start and knew this one would be a little better. I had a three cards to a straight flush and went for it and got it.  Then right after hit the four fours by throwing away two sevens.  I had a couple of straights and another full house and then had on the very last second four nines.  My second score was 1,380.  They combined the scores of the two rounds.

My 1,760 ended up being good enough for fourth place.  I had to fill out a tax form but got $250 for my effort.  I had to pay a buy in of $25.  If you played there enough you got that comp but I had only been playing there once a month for the last three months.

I took the $250 and played video poker with it.  Ended up playing until four in the morning.  I finally went to the room (it was comp) to sleep.  I had $200 of the money still.  I was playing jacks or better 9/6.  I would get low then hit four of a kind and get enough to play for a long time again.  I earned right at 2,900 base credits (Harrahs has video poker play for a credit at $10 one credit is earned).  Plus I earned nearly the same in reward credits which can be used for comps to buy meals or shows even plane tickets to fly to another casino.  It was a very nice day and night for me.

I would highly recommend you trying to get into one of the tournaments. It is fun.  I met a lot of nice people as we stood and line and visited from all over the midwest. We had one thing in common we like video poker.

Also I would recommend you practice a lot before the tournament so you are very familiar with double double bonus poker and can do it as fast as your fingers can move.  I think the way this is set up it is got to be quick with the fingers and mind.  (Some have said, "I am slow in the mind.")

Wow!  Sounds like you did great in that second round!  You will probably do even better the next time since this was your first and you were just getting the feel for it.  4th place. It sounds like you are pretty good at the games!

First place was a four day trip to Altantic City including hotel, food (I think), airfare to play in the millionaire maker final tournament (if I read it right there are 23 for final round.)

Second place was $1,000 and third place was $500.  They also paid $100 to fifth through 10 places.

The tournament ran for two hours with people in line to play for all two hours. They had twenty-eight machines to play on and they had five minutes to play for each person.  So if my math is correct there was likely 600 players.  (I know it would be 672 but I was thinking of time to get up and move and let the mext person play.)

Next opportunity for the millionaire maker tournament at Caesars Indiana is November 19 two rounds 5:30 and 7:30 (eastern time).  Cost is $25 unless you are comp.

The last millionaire maker tournament will be December 11 with times the same and cost same as well.

I highly recommend you trying one of these tournaments. They are fun.

Does anyone know where to find a list of video poker tournaments. I live in New Jersey. I never see them advertised anywhere. I would love to play in one of them. Valerie

Casino player and Strictly Slots magazines usually have slot & video poker tournaments listed in the back of their publications. You can probably subscribe online. They are both east coast based magazines. Bob Dancer writes a column for each too!---CWA---

Thanks. I already subscribe to Casino Player Magazine but I never noticed the ads for the poker tournaments. Will check the next issue. Valerie
