Touch screen malfunctions

Post by Zid »

Is this unique to my casino (Potawatomi in Milwaukee) or a standard problem:

I can save cards by touch screen and occasionally experience a hold card shifting into not-held mode. Has not been a problem on very valuable hands, but I have sacrificed 3-of-a-kind on occasion. Now you see it, now you don't, as I draw new cards. I am wondering if this is a static electricity issue? I do prefer the touch screen over the buttons, but imagine if this happened on a royal!

Also, are casinos required to let you see the eye-in-the-sky image on a dispute like this? I was told they are not so required and typically don't.

Thoughts appreciated.

Zid, this is malfunction junction around my part of the country, I've seen it all. I went to Hot Springs, Ar. to play once and I had the same exact problem as you on several of their machines, while I didn't miss a big payout because of the problem I missed a few small hands. I remember being so mad because I had drove several miles out of my way to check the place out and their machines were in terrible shape, I'm guessing it was because they have the only game in town and the machines see a lot of play. I never seen a drink server there either, I made my way up to the bar and found that those machines were in good shape and also had better pay tables. I put a $100 bill in the machines and proceeded to play $1 DDB at max coins, the bartender ask me if I wanted a drink so I ordered a diet coke, I was shocked when he said that will be $2. You can get away with a lot of crap when you have zero competition.

Thanks for that. The nightmare, of course, is a corrupted royal on a touch screen machine. I am resolved now to using the buttons on "bigger" hands. But it's really aggravating, being at the mercy of the casino in this way.

While I am at it, the machines at this casino default to $1 (from $5 and $10 play on the same machine.) All except one. I sat at that machine and lost $100 in two hands! The casino told me to pound sand, that it was my responsibility to check the setitngs before I played. But if machiens default to the lowest denomination, why should that be my responsibility? Obviously, this machine had malfunctioned. (Of course, had I won a royal on either of the $50 bets, I'd probably have taken the money :)

Well it's nice to know I'm not the only one that's happened to. I move around a lot while I play, every single one of the machines had .25, .50 and $1 denomination so when I moved to another machine I would push the denomination button twice and select DDB without even thinking about it. Turns out they had one machine on the very end that was $1, $5 and $10 denomination I lost that $100 bill in two hands, geez I was mad.

Casinos around the country pull a lot of funny stuff when it comes to video poker.  I'm convinced they intentionally leave buttons and screens broken in an attempt to increase their edge.  This thing about machines switching games and denomination is a real problem, especially in unregulated states.   I once hit the max coin button and a machine took 100 credits!   I got out of it because I hit a straight, but I never went back to that place.   Buyer Beware!

I've had buttons themselves remove my hold as well. I have had to hold a card three separate times for the hold to stick! I just don't have time for this nonsense, especially when the progressive is just a few bucks above minimum. In Atlantic City, I can easily take my business elsewhere.

The worst I ever had was in Florida where the deal button stuck. It played about 10 hands ina row by itself. Of course, I lost them all because I couldn't hold a single card.

Once while playing UX ten-play in Michigan I was dealt a flush with max coin. My following hand should have been all 10X, they weren't. I should have called someone over to investigate, I didn't. I was winning and it didn't bother me at the time.

I mistakenly played a 5$ machine in the midst of 25 cent ones and hit four deuces for $2,000. The next time we were there, the machine was gone. Serves them right!

If it is a dealt royal, this won't happen because the cards are automatically held for you without you touching either the screen or the buttons.
