Had to Google it.  Joe Btfsplk was a character in the satirical comic strip Li'l
Abner by cartoonist Al Capp. He is well-meaning, but is the world's
worst jinx, bringing disastrous misfortune to everyone around him.

I agree with the fifty dollar rule. My problem is getting to the fifty.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That itself is a problem half the time. Once I lose $30 on a machine, I actively consider a move. A quad would only draw me even. And that blessed event could still be over a hundred hands away! By that point, another $30 would be lost. And I'd be forced into short coin bets and get much less bang for the quad than early in the session when hope sprang eternal. Sat through that movie before.

When playing max coin quarter deuces $20 at a time, it's common to have a number of $50 cashed out tickets not counting quad deuces or royals.   If you play only your cash and not your tickets, you can go home with at least 1/2 your money the majority of the time.   The problem comes when you run out of money and are temped to play your tickets.  It's very tough to walk away, but I'm getting better at it.

You do so damn well turning twenties into fifties on DW, a VP alchemist! I am really playing the wrong game with JOB. Hell, you don't even get two for one on the two pairs. It's grind away for the quad for me, and hope that brings me even. This is usually a white knuckle ride, even with the low variance. Sunday I lucked out with successive quads on adjacent machines. But your formula works like a charm! I'd love to try this out and see if I can replicate your results. JOB is drudgery 90% of the time. That $50 plateau takes forever to hit. I'm only max betting 40% of the time, but I'd lose at least just as much as I'd win otherwise.

Quad based video poker games are a feast or famine experience.  If you hit a group of quads, all is well.  If don't hit any or only hit one every hour or so, it's usually a slow ride to empty pockets.  A royal can pop up at any time, but they're usually a very rare occurrence.  Deuces wild has interesting swings not related to quad deuces or royals that in my opinion make it easier to financially manage.  If you take $300 to the casino and break it down into $20 bills, you have 15 chances of turning one of your 20s into a $50.  Out of those 15 chances, it is common for at least two or more of your 20s will make it to $50.   Some days are better than others, but if you have discipline coming home with half your money in white tickets is common.  In addition, you can always hit one or more quad deuce jackpots for $250 or a royal for $1,000.  Even if you never hit a quad deuce or a royal, you will have some white tickets to go home with.   I think deuces wild is the most exciting and down right fun of all the video poker games because you never know what's going to happen.  The strategy is definitely different, but not that hard to master.

It gets so frustrating. I don't get how people play marathon quad based sessions. I do pretty well on DW practice hands here, but I fall back on the tried and true crutch at the casinos. I take $100, so that's one shot at a $50. Not great, but not awful if I take the plunge.
