Just out of curiosity: what bankroll besides the initial entry fee, is needed for tournament poker play?

He is talking about playing multiple tournaments over time, so a bankroll of more than 1 entry fee is important. The appropriate number depends on buy-in size, field size, and payout structures.

Back in the online poker days, for larger tournaments, I think they suggested close to 100 buy-ins for a moderately successful winner to not go broke very often. For Single Table Tournaments, they suggested closer to 30 buy-ins. Not sure about live play as much.
Yep    That is precisely the train of thought and philosophy I was advocating in this particular example.....a word of caution though, the variance/range in both the price of buy-ins for tournaments VARIES significantly across the spectrum of individual casinos, as well as the individual table maximum buy-ins across some cash games as well.     This is why you often see or hear me speak of  HIGH VALUE Tournaments......contests that typically have a Guaranteed Prize Pool amount are the best (i.e. $10k guaranteed,  as in the case of the Golden Nugget AC last Saturday of the month with a buy-in of around 95 bucks......or Ballys AC weekly Friday & Saturday night tournaments that have a $5k guaranteed pool with a Total buyin of $65)    These are Amateur level tournaments that still attract players with skills far in excess of amateur level, but who are obviously simply trying to build their bankroll for a bigger event! When you venture over to the Borgata, or to a place like Mohegan Sun, or if you are in Vegas at places line Wynn or any of the more upscale Strip properties, you will encounter tournaments with large guaranteed prize pools of $50k, 100k and up and up (i.e.  specific "events" meant to attract lots of people of varying skill levels but mainly semi-pro and UP....many of these "events" are part of the global Poker Tours and Organizations of which there are now numerous, the WSOP being the most famous of course......in fact, every continent except antarctica has its own poker "tour" lol)Maybe Ted can kindly explain his problem with this answer......and what his alternative point of view regarding bankroll is.....Its obvious, if someone intends to ONLY play one tournament for a given period, whether that "period" is defined as a month, or 3 months or year, then the total buy-in for that tournament technically represents a "bankroll"......Another wrinkle to this whole concept of applying Bankroll that Vman actually did not delve into, and which I will NOW delve into, is the role  "RE-BUYS"  and RE-Entries play in tournaments and what this means for a semi-serious player's bankroll.    Obviously if someone intends to engage in Re-buys or Re-entries then that needs to be added to a bankroll and makes the amount needed a whole lot larger!

I just finished playing 10 handed Bonus Poker dreamcard on this site......I am playing more on this site these last couple weeks, and I plan to do more of this in the future.    It is not that I NEVER EVER played here......I have at times played a lot (what I consider to be a lot, which is 45 minutes to an hour at a time.....granted I am not in the same league as some other zealots here, but then again, this is probably due to the fact I have more, and better things, to do with my time than press keys on my keyboard for imaginary credits, just so I can say "i did it" in response to critics who do not matter in the first place....)Nonetheless, this is by far the BEST practice Video poker website around, in my opinion.Oh, and I "WON"  1000 imaginary credits in my dreamcard session.....best hand was a dreamcarded straight flush.    I liked the Bonus Poker version only because the swings are not as severe and you do not sink like a rock as much as other games like DDB or TDB dreamcard. In an actual casino, though, I only would play 10 hand dreamcard if it were 5 cents denom......I prefer the Five Star single line dreamcard if playing for 25cent denom

Wrong, this website is not on Central time. I did get a bling this morning alerting me that I had Sunday July 17th's daily high score for DreamCard. I think that was my 164th daily high game score.

Keep trying for those daily high scores DaBurglar and, remember: practice makes perfect. Unless the game's rigged of course.

To add: Many a night my head has hit the pillow with me thinking that I would nail a daily game high score only to awake and find that I was out scored.
