Case in point: I just returned from a short visit to The Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Last month, they had two All Star II machines set up with DealDraw (aka Double Pay) at the $0.25 to $1 denom. This past weekend, those same machines were now down to 5 cent denoms, with no DealDraw game.

Did they have .05 to $1 or was it just .25 - $1 changed to .05? It may be they were not getting any play at .25+ because the casinos I visit now its just pretty much all nickel players that are left in the world

We have a bank of 10 - $1 progressive that on Friday and Saturday night 2 years ago you could hardly get a seat from 5p-11p. Now on Fri Sat night maybe 1 or 2 ppl put a $20 in all night. You could play on this bank all night and win or loose a few hundred on average. Now you have to put in $2k just to get your first Quad. And then its usually like dealt 8s.
I honestly don't remember, since it took me three days to get on the machine, as it was being played by nickel players. When I saw that they took off DealDraw, I asked a slot tech why. He said "Somebody ordered it off".

When you say "put in 2k just to get your first quad, has this actually happened to you personally.
lol it has happened many times. I have been through $5,600 before without hitting a quad. But yes this year my quad average is 1/900 hands. In the past its been about 1/600. I have had some handpays but just nothing in between.

Sounds like you and I are running neck and neck again. Not a record I cherish either. I have scaled back quite a bit and even have been playing nickels now for the most part, but I can't even get a drip out of the ice cube. 400k and counting without a Royal, 70k and counting without Deuces quads on the Deuces wild games. My quad average though on draw poker games is about 650 and the quad average for joker kings games in about right at 1 every 120 or so. What this translates to as I'm sure you know, is a total return in the 95-96 percent range for the year. The games I play average in the 98-99.5 percent   paytables with very few errors made.
What bothers me the most is this and this is why I am not sure about the rngs in the vp machines. After my last 10 sessions, I have put a 20 in each of 2 junky select lines penny machines. I play about the same way as I do with vp using a Martingale clone method. That translates to putting a twenty in 20 machines. On each and every trial on these probably 88% or less penny machines, I have managed to get the twenty up to twenty five before they spiraled down to 0. Not only that, the twenty usually lasts nearly an hour on each machine played. I never use my player card on these penny machines either.
If I try and get that 25 percent up number before the machine takes it all on vp, forget it. It just doesn't happen. Not even close. Sometimes maybe up five percent of so of the bill put in before a spiraling down to 0. This sample of this kind of play is 20-30 sessions on vp and as posted above about 10 sessions on the penny machines.

olds and spx, you are not alone. As i watch others playing VP, i cannot  believe how many are playing 1,2 or 3 coins. Are they all following phil's system? I doubt it, they are lovers of the game, the game has changed and they are simply attempting to stretch out their play. They have been forced to adapt. The paytables have changed for the worse, the machines (RNG) are different and you are on a bad luck streak. I think it is misleading that anyone indicates that they have had mutilple postitive years of playing VP (in the past 5 years),  unless they are generously counting plane rides, hotel rooms, food, etc. I just do not believe it.

DaBurglar,
This is the first time I've had it happen. With any electronic or mechanical device I would think a shut down would be possible.

My website clearly states that playing 2, 3 or 4 coins is a bad bet.  If you play the same bet on any video poker machine with negative odds long enough, you will lose (period no exceptions). I believe there have been subtle changes made to video poker machine programming to the benefit of the casinos.  These changes are designed to be invisible to the regulators, but none the less do affect the way the machine pays.  A 98% machine is still a 98% machine, but  things are definitely different than they used to be.  For example, I have found that single coin play pays better than max coin play.  This benefits the casino in two ways; it puts more wins down the pay scale where the lack of the Royal bonus is a major negative factor and it causes players to second guess their strategy and move to max coins where they lose more.   Also, jackpots seem to be bunched together much more than they used to be with very long dry spells in between.  This causes more players to bust before they hit the paying hands.    The choice is clear; You can continue to play standard max coin strategy or you can find a new strategy  that works for you not the casino.  The Cheap Video Poker strategy works for me, but you may find something better for your situation or style of play.  Positive years are possible, but you have to change the way you look at the game.

If one thinks that subtle changes have been made to VP machine programming or one coin pays better than max coin or jackpots are bunched together more often, isn't that just another way of saying he RNG is not really random or the machines have been tinkered with?
