The WHole PTSD Fluster Cluck....

Post by DaBurglar »

The recent horrific mass shooting in Thousand Oaks California (an area I know very well) was perpetrated by a 28 year old caucasian former Marine who, allegedly, was suffering from PTSD. Apparently he has been treated for PTSD for some time (in other words, it has been KNOWN for some time that the individual has very serious issues with mental faculty and function.) To start off with, can someone explain WHY or HOW it is ok for someone with a very serious mental health problem to easily and seemelssly acquire firearms?? Please try to respond to that question, and then continue with the following discussion:

The VAST majority of veterans of all services who have seen actual real COMBAT in wars from both the recent past (i.e. IRAQ/Afghanistan) and distant past (i.e. Vietnam, Korea, WWII etc.) come home and function and live normal, even exceptional lives and contribute to society and harm NO ONE. Some of these exemplary individuals do indeed suffer from some form or degree of PTSD; Some need treatment, some don't but again, the point is they do not harm people.

It has been said that with veterans in terms of their Mental Competency, Morality and ability to function and contribute to society THAT...... you essentially exit the military service in the same state and with the same CHARACTER you entered it, as the same person you entered the service. In other words, the stories and cliched tripe now being circulated about this latest UNITED STATES MARINE who Killed 13 innocent peaceful citizens, that he "Suffered from PTSD" and therefore that explains why he did it and actually OBLIGATES us to offer him almost as much sympathy as the actual victims, is complete BS. It diminishes and taints the MANY MANY Millions of Veterans (whether they also have PTSD or not) who have served and returned home to lead good lives.

Here's why I am saying all this: it has recently been learned that the 28 year old Perp of the Thousand Oaks massacre has perpetrated violent, antisocial incidents from his past (BEFORE he joined the Marines and subsequently started suffering PTSD from his resulting exposure to whatever violence he saw or whatever the MArines had him do). This validates the notion stated above, that you essentially exit the service the same type of Moral, Charactered Individual as you entered. In other words, this particular Marine was a violent mean spirited vindictive jerk BEFORE he was a Marine.

it's WRONG to blame (or even insinuate any real connection to) the military service and what happens there for crimes and wrongdoing that people do AFTER they leave.

The real issue, again, is that FIREARMS need to be regulated and controlled MORE than they currently are....NOT BANNED, not eliminated, NOT outlawed entirely...but controlled. If some people can be denied a DRIVING LICENSE because of certain medical conditions or the medications they are on, then that should also be true for Guns. There is no valid argument against this obvious logical truth.

Obvious, valid, argument refuting "logical truth". Firearm ownership is a constitutionally guaranteed right. A drivers license is a conditional privilege not a right.
