Double Bonus 9/7/5

Post by olds442jetaway »

Mohegan sun just installed some new bartops throughout the casino. I was pleasantly surprised to see this game with a 99.1 return in the menu and at the quarter level😋 as well. I know the strategy for this game is involved including inside straight draws, 3 to a flush draws, and on and on. If I play this game exactly the same as I would play 9/6 job with 5 quqrters at a time, does anyone know how much I am giving up percentage wise. Anyone who takes the time to figure this out gets 2 free buffet vouchers at Mohegan Sun and a free trip to the lounge.

Ps.....I played this today at Mohegan and was frustrated in going quadless for 3 hours until I held 2 Aces then drew the other two.

Olds,

Played with computer-perfect 9-6 Jacks or Better strategy, your 9-7-5 Double Bonus game will yield 98.4808%. So, you are leaving a potential 0.6257% on the table in exchange for not having to be bothered with a new strategy. The variance (30.40 vs. 28.55) is actually a little larger than the DB game played with its own strategy, primarily because the Jacks or Better strategy will give you about 19% more Royal Flushes.

Hand......... Payoff Combinations.......... Probability Hit Freq. Variance Return
Royal Flush 800... 493,512,264............ 0.000025... 40,390.55.15.81 0.019807

Jacks or Better 1...... 4,277,372,890,968...... 0.214585.... 4.66... 0.00.. 0.214585

Totals................... 19,933,230,517,200............................. 30.40 0.984808

Sorry that I couldn't make the table prettier. Maybe you could copy it and reformat it if it matters to you and you were so inclined.

I thank you for the generous offer, but for the time being it looks like I won't be able to make it out there anytime soon. Should that change, I will be sure to let you know. Best of luck.

Thanks so much for the hard work. I was hoping it would be around 98.5 or so. I will definitely look into playing the correct way, but if I get lazy, who knows. With the Martingale clone I use, I may be able to offset the difference short term. If you do get out this way, I may be able to get a mid week comp room for you too. Thanks again. My record on Royal hits lifetime is so poor that the 19 percent may even help me playing the job way. If I play 3 lines, I seem to be able to hit royals about on schedule and almost always on the top or bottom line. I have noticed that in a lifetime of play. I guess you read over the years about my 3 streaks of over 600k hands for each streak going royalless.

For anyone who cares, I was given information that the Mohegan Sun tier or status lock in period will be Dec 17, 18, 19, 20. For me it is only 100 status points or about 50k total run through the machines. It still may cost me easily 3k for the lock in with no Royals, but considering how many nights I spend up there it is worth it for the 6 month period. I could never hit the required 4,000 status points in 6 months without the lock in contest. I have done that 3 times before and it was way too expensive. I mean way way too expensive. Like 40k to 60k each time and that's only losing about 2 percent

After giving it a little thought, I'm guessing there are 4 relatively easy changes to your Jacks or Better strategy that might make up some of the deficit and let you lose a little less EV.

At the top of the chart:
1. Break up a Full House to hold trip aces.
2. Break up Two Pair to hold a pair of aces. (These two changes take advantage of that big quad aces jackpot, 800 instead of the 125 that Jacks or Better gives you)

At the bottom of the chart, rather than tossing in all 5 cards when jacks or better strategy tells you to,
3. Hold an inside straight draw with 4 low cards like 6432 or 9865, or if you can't do that,
4. Hold 3 little cards of the same suit. (These take advantage of the bigger payouts for straights and flushes).

Only slightly harder would be instead of holding a single high card by itself, also hold 2 suited cards along with it when you have them (like J32 of hearts or A96 of spades), but I realize that's getting a little more into the weeds.

Whatever you do, have a good time.

The Wizard of Odds site has some neat charts showing the cost of playing a game using another game's strategy. It agrees with New2vp's calculation for playing 9/7/5 db using JOB strategy.

Thanks for the additional info and hints. It would be easy for me to handle breakup and keep 2 or 3 aces. I hate drawing to an inside straight in any game so i think i will let that one go. 3 to a flush i will have to think about. Not keen on that one either. Thanks for the wizard hint omt

I saw a $4,000 RF on 9/5 TDB over the weekend. She was even more reckless than Olds! )
