Nevada in (mostly) November

Post by onemoretry »

Our most recent Nevada trip actually started in late October, on the 29th. When we finally returned home on November 10, we had, despite a rather ominous beginning, eked out a very, very modest vp profit of about $150.

We left home on October 29 at around 10:00am eastern time, and finally walked into our suite at Harrahs Tahoe at just after 10:00pm pacific time, some 15 tiring hours later. Needless to say, we were tired, and went to bed.

The next morning, we were disappointed to find that all of their 25c and 50c single line 8/5 bonus poker machines had been downgraded to 7/5. Other than the multiline machines that we really enjoy, these were our "go to" machines there. They still have $1 single line 8/5 bonus poker machines, so we played a bit on them until we could move to the multilines. We thought there were only two of the multilines, one of which was occupied. We later found two more of them.

That first session turned out ok for me, at plus $250, while my wife broke even. Little did we know that we would not be ahead again for the trip until the very end. The rest of my first day was spent losing at 10 line quarters (9/6 JOB), and on a $1 deuces wild (98.91%) progressive. At the end of the day, I was down $900. My wife did even worse, ending the day down $1600.

Our second day was much better. I lost a bit, ($400) on about $25000 of play on the 10 line JOBs, and an additional $200 on that deuces wild progressive. Those losses were offset by a very nice plus $600 half hour session on $1 bonus poker, courtesy of three or four quads, including quad aces. My wife was up $800 for the day.

Day three started off quite well for me, with a royal on 10 line JOB, and a plus $900 session. Unfortunately, the rest of the day consumed all of that win, and I finished even for the day. My wife also had a royal on 10 line, but the balance of her day was truly awful, and she ended up down $950. So, our three days at Harrahs cost us $2650 at the machines. The following day, it was off to Vegas.

We spent four nights at Main Street Station. Our play over that time was mostly multiline 25c 8/5 bonus poker, with a very minimal amount of 25c single line NSU deuces. Between us, we totalled 15 sessions of play there, eleven of which were losers. We were down a combined $1100 on the machines there, which was offset a bit by a total of about $150 in cashback and $260 from scratch cards. I did hit the deuces while playing NSU (on a five card redraw), and my wife had that unusual hand on triple play that I mentioned elsewhere, where, drawing to a queen-jack-ten, she hit both a straight flush and a royal.

Then, now $3750 in the hole at the machines for the trip, it was off to the M for a three night stay. To say that things got better there would be an understatement. We played mostly triple or five line quarters there, with some single line quarter NSU deuces. The multiline play was deuces wild (98.91%) for me, and a mixture of that and 7/5 super aces for her.

At the M, we totalled sixteen playing sessions, with seven being positive. I had one royal there while she had three. She also had one incredible spell playing triple line super aces where she was dealt quad fours three times in about 45 minutes! When we left the M, she was up $2075 there, while I was ahead $660. And, before leaving, we each took about $100 in cashback.

Putting it all together, we left Nevada on November 9 down a "combined" $400 (all of which was me - she was even). We flew back to Buffalo, and, as is our norm, stayed at Seneca Niagara before completing the drive home. We did not play Friday evening, but Saturday morning, after some hemming and hawing as to whether or not to play, we loaded our stuff into our vehicle and went back to play for a couple of hours before having lunch, and driving home.

It turned out to be a good decision, as I played the two hours even, while she won $550, putting us ahead $150 on vp for the entire trip!

I've been hearing generally positive things about the M. It's just so remote from me.

We've always liked the place. But we recently heard, and another poster has confirmed, that some changes are coming. Changes do not usually benefit the players. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

On your Main Street scratch cards did you get anything above 2 dollars? Maybe a 5 dollar one? I was actually playing at Main Street and witnessed someone get a 5,000 dollar scratch. Staff all came over to take a look as most had never seen one before. I like the 777 brewery at Main Street.

I enjoyed you report. VP is definitely a roller coaster game.

Nice report OMT and, I too, like M.

Case, that would be cool to see, that person getting the $5,000.00 scratch ticket. Do winners on amounts such as that get paid in cash or freeplay?

And, I also got the email regarding changes coming to their players club and near home it will affect me at Hollywood Joliet and Hollywood Lawrenceburg Indiana.

Players club is converting to myChoice. I would predict it will be a mostly neutral change.

Nice run at M! Love the craft beer there! But still waiting on my first natural quad there. Ouch!

I have had the occasional $5 one in the past, but not this trip. I had 55 at $2 and 2 at $3, for a total of $116. This was touch under 0.4% of my coinin at MSS this trip (every little bit helps).

I hope you are aware that you can get the brewpub beers in the casino itself at the machines.

I hope you're right on that. Do you know how much play on vp is needed to earn a myChoice tier point?
