Check Everything Part 2

Post by SaraTG »

So seeing a previous thread about machines having various denominations etc, has anyone ever sat down at a machine and put in a ticket or a couple of hundred to get started and hit the "MAX CREDITS" button and discovered the machine had an insanely high max bet? And if so did it turn out to be a good mistake? Or did you play 3-4 hands and find all your credits gone before you noticed? It's happened to me a few times more on slot machines but a few times on the multi-hand poker machines as well.

A recent example would be at the Hard Rock. Most casino bars have their BJ set at a max bet of $10. HR has a max of 100 credits. Found out the hard way when I accidentally hit it. I had ten vs dealer 5 and went to double down only to discover my $10 bet was now $100.
Years ago, at the old Sands, there was a Grizzly type machine that had treated me well. It was a bit rich for me, as it was 27 coins so a quarter player spent $6.75 a spin. I sit down, put in $100 ,spin and get nothing. Go to spin and get a message to add more money. It was set for $2 a credit, not the usual 25 cents. My introduction to multi-denominational machines.

I've done it (hit max bet when I didn't intend to) probably three or four times. A couple of them were at our nearby casino on a hot roll machine, where a max bet of 10 credits per line activates the hot roll feature. I prefer to play 5 credits per line without the hot roll and the increased variance that goes along with it. It has usually taken two or three hands before I've realized my mistake.

And, I've done it a couple of times at Harrahs Tahoe on 50 play 25c machines where I intended to play 10 lines, and wound up playing all 50. I do remember the result on one of the events as being pretty good, as I was playing 9/6 JOB, and was dealt two pair. I don't recall how the other one turned out, which suggests to me that it wasn't particularly good, or bad.

I try to forget but I’ve hit that button a few times myself. The best i ever did was get my bet back. I don’t remember betting more than a ten buck goof though. Holy cow, on a hundred play machine at the dollar level betting 5 a line would or could wipe you out on one deal.

Not really. Most spins you'll get most of your money back. Better to accidently bet $500 on a 100 play machine then on a single play where most times you get nothing back.

As I reported, this happened to me once when I found myself betting $100 on one hand. I was playing deuces wild and hit a straight. I changed my underwear and ordered a drink.

Sometime this year when a machine is running hot, I want to take a $25 spin. That's my crazy ceiling for the year.

You can take a cheap ride on the $5 machines if you use CS. This is absolutely not a way to beat the casinos and you don't want you to play like this all the time. I use it when I have the itch and in small doses. Warning! This is purely a Recreational Strategy. Once you hit one of these you will be addicted. Losing $20 is not going to hurt you. Do this all the time and you won't like the result.

Walk up to a $5 machine and put in one $20 bill. Bet one coin and play Deuces Wild. If the counter reaches $125 or more, increase your bet to 5 coins on the following hand. Return to single coin if the counter falls below $125, cash out and walk away. If you run out of money, walk away. If you win anything decent (up to you), walk away happy. I cash out at $100 or more.

This is a crazy way to play VP I know. It's not based on anything except pure luck. It's a $20 thrill ride. You will most definitely lose most of the time. It has also produced a number of nice jackpots for me. The important thing is to not get carried away. Everything works until it doesn't.

Here's one of them. I hit 4 deuces for $1,000 then hit a $5 max coin wild royal on the next hand. Notice that I came within one card of hitting a second quad deuce for $5,000.

How do you decide if a machine is "hot"?
