I also believe most players would go to the casino no matter what the odds. My friend Jack loves to play slots. He is a very intelligent hard working individual who started his own bank and sold it to a bigger bank. Like me he didn't inherit his wealth, he made it on his own.

I would love to write a book on casino gambling. My strategy would be simple. If you can't afford to lose your money, don't walk in. Don't take what happens too seriously. Stop fretting over odds, perfect play and long term results. Buy some software, play the best games available, do the best you can and take what the casino gives you. If you win, be happy with what you've won. Don't throw it back into the machines because you want more.

Casino gambling is great entertainment. The casino wants you to have a good time. If you don't, it's probably because of something you are doing or thinking. I have yet to see a casino with a door charge. The cost of admission is totally up to you.

I hate button slammers too. Also people who hang around yakking never putting any money in the machines. I don't mind someone taking up a seat next to someone as long as there are plenty of seats available. How about when the best machine in the casino is taken up by someone playing Keno when all the Keno machines are identical?

Yep, plenty of those, especially afternoons. Deadbeat Central. Another benefit of AM play. My VP machines don't have a Keno option, otherwise I'd be furious as well.

Ah yes.....the yakers. My last visit I had 6 drunks who just came out of a country Western show chain smoking, swearing, and yaking right in back of where I was playing. By the way the girls were swearing way more than the guys and you already know which word it was. Dirty looks did no good and eventually after putting up with it for 45 minutes, I cashed out of my machine that was actually doing pretty well and went and got a beer of my own. Then one of the 3 regular button slammers came by and started playing right next to me. Well that was an unentertaining ten more minutes. I took the long walk to the sky casino and sat down under the non smoking turtle dome. Everything was fine for twenty minutes until the swear guy shows up. This guy has been around for years. He talks loudly to himself and answers himself too. The only trouble is and he doesnt care if there are ladies in the vicinity. Literally every other word is swear words and really bad ones strung together into verses. He does this after every losing hand. He is actually very entertaining in a crude sort of way. So I stopped playing altogether, had another beer and just listened to him for a half hour or so until busted. By then it was 3AM and I just called it a night.

John Scarne's epic work, "Scarne's complete Guide to Gambling" covered most subjects including sage advice for most recreational players regarding spending money for a night's entertainment. The latter would apply to non-APs and others who would not play VP without an edge.

This little battle we have on this forum between Advantage Play proponents and Recreational Players is a little silly. It gives us something to talk about, but it doesn't change anyone's lifestyle. If you find an advantage, use it. If you don't, know what that means. I think every player should know VP math. Informed players are better players. It's up to each individual to decide if a game is playable or not.

Scarne has long since been exposed as a fraud. He literally just made stuff up. Once computer simulations became common, many of his plays were shown to be way off. He advocates sticking on all 16s vs 10s. It's a very common hand and playing it his way will cost serious money. He actually accused Ed Thorpe of wearing xray glasses and insisted card counting doesn't work.
He was a charlatan, a self promoter who wrote books littered with horrible advice which is also forty years out of date. It's a fun read, especially if one understands math and how he misapplied it.
