The Casino Giveth, and the Casino...

Post by onemoretry »

For most of last Friday, I thought that the ending to that would be "Taketh Away", but a late rally saved me.

I am not a devotee of double double bonus. However, it is the highest return game on the machines I prefer to play at Casino Rama, so I decided to forgo deuces wild and deuces wild bonus, the games I normally play there, and give double double a try. I armed myself with a strategy from the wizard of odds site, and dived in.

I played 25c 10 line on a hot roll machine without, as is normal for me, activating the hot roll feature. I started with 1120 credits, 800 from $200 I inserted into the machine, plus $80 in downloaded earned slot play.

The game played fairly evenly for a bit, but then trended gradually downward. When I was down to around 300 credits, I hit the 4 aces with kicker on a four card draw to a single ace for 2000 credits - nice. Shortly thereafter, on a three card draw to a pair of fours, I drew the other two fours and a kicker for another 800 credits. I couldn't help thinking that another good day was in the offing.

But, I spent the next 45 minutes or so spiralling downward. Finally, those two nice quads were totally wiped out, and I was reaching into my wallet for another $200. And, not too long after that, it was another $200. And, then, yet another $200.

Sitting there with $800 in the machine, I was thinking that I was headed for a four digit loss. But, darned if it didn't turn around. The seemingly unending string of garbage deals did finally end, and some better stuff came along. There were a few dealt straights and flushes, and a full house. And, on my second draw to three aces, having whiffed the first time, I hit the 4 aces with kicker again. All in all, it seemed to take only a few minutes to climb out of that deep hole into slightly positive territory. And then, for icing on the cake, I scored a royal on a two card draw, and cashed out shortly thereafter at plus $1360.

My wife had a very tough time at the start as well. I kept hearing the phrase: "I can't keep money in the machine". At one point she was down at least $1000, but did ultimately bounce back with a couple of sets of aces on super aces, and deuces and deuces with an ace on deuces wild bonus, to finish slightly up by $11.

So, what looked as if it was going to be a really tough day at the casino, turned out OK. Sometimes, but unfortunately, not always, perseverance pays off.

Congrats to you both OMT. Having a bankroll sufficient to withstand the dry spells that can happen in both DDB and TDB is definitely a key as well as having the intestinal fortitude to play through those dry spells.

Congrats again.

Edited to add: I wonder what may have happened if the hot roll feature was active? We'll never know.

To endure -$800 is supreme resilience. I feel apoplectic at -$100.

I bite my tongue sometimes and feel apoplectic when so so many young people have to look at pictures on cash registers to do anything math related. I guess that’s why instead of playing vider poker with their mad money, they buy unending packs of cigarettes and cover themselves with tattoos. Yes, I know I am a dinosaur and proud of it! Anyway, I digress. Congrats Mrs. and Mr. OMT. Notice I typed Mrs. first hee hee. Well IMO, old school was a good school.

I just left the convenience store and got a quart of milk for my dad. Charged me 1.89. Sign on case said 1.69. I gave the young clerk a minute then realized she was totally clueless on what to do. I politely said hun you owe me 20 cents. She opened the register and gave it to me still in space on the amount or reason. Sorry, digressed again. Congrats again folks

Actually, at a very ripe 77 years old, I think I may have you outdinasaured. In any event, thank you for the kind thoughts.

Yep, got me by nearly 7 years, but either of us would qualify for a bit part in one of the Jurassic Park movies.
