Frustrations in the Video Poker world

Post by olds442jetaway »

Is the world of Video Poker as we knew and loved it slowly collapsing around us? I think so. I sense the frustrations of many posters and even Webman too. By the way, I do not agree with the recent suspension either, but that is not my call. I don't see a lot of new posts by a lot of new vp players. The casinos have chosen for the most part to take a path that I feel will ultimately leave us in the dust. I don't have to list everything here, because most of us know, feel, and experience what is happening. Cutting pay tables, not maintaining machines, removing the best games, and placing new games in the worst areas surrounded by over bright blaring penny machines are just a few examples. All we can continue to do is either not play at all which for most of us is not a good option or try and make the best we can out of the current situation. The recent tax law change I have recently posted about just compounds things and makes things even worse for us and the casino too. I tried to get the casinos to lobby against it myself, but either they didn't fully understand what the new tax law was going to do, or they just couldn't be bothered. One final note. As we age, and maybe can't make as many trips as we used to to the casino, we are not IMO being replaced by very many younger players. They just don't have the interest the way we did 20,30, or 40 years ago.

Agree. Just by reading this forum since this website was first introduced, it is obvious that overall VP interest and submitted jackpot photos are both decreasing. I see the same thing at casinos in both Vegas and Laughlin. Once over-crowded high limit rooms are now barely occupied, and most of the players are slotties. Casinos have obviously decided that the money is to be made on the slots, and who can blame them? If I owned a casino of course I would cater to the crowd that is providing profit margins in the 30% to 40% range, vs the much smaller profit percentages offered by VP players. I think also, and no offense intended, that the slot crowd is easier to addict, while the VP crowd is more likely to consider paytables, machine conditions, and smoking.

Have to agree guys. Some reasons are many new players don't understand the game of VP. They may practice then go into a casino with a small bankroll, play a game like DDB and get killed and don't go back for awhile. Not understanding bankroll size, not knowing how much free play one can get can play a big part in losing less and are two big factors for less players.

A Recreational Player, playing once a week can have fun yet should put some time into how much play per month gets them so much free play. Then play with that in mind. We all play negative games without free play.

Olds and I do a lot of coin in per month. We know the cost. We know our free play amount. We know at the end of the year where we will be on a winning or losing scale give or take. Yes it's math and it don't lie.

another option is table blackjack. with basic strategy alone a good rules table can offer 99.5% ,however please avoid games where they offer 6 to 5 instead of 3 to 2 it brings casino edge way up !!also at the beginning of shoe ask that all decks be spread to make sure no aces or tens r removed or extra fives added which also adds dramatically to casino edge and is OUTRIGHT CHEATING by the casino !! this has been going on a lot at indian and regular casinos !!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have any evidence of casinos shorting decks? Every loser likes to claim the decks are gaffed but I've yet to see evidence.

Edit- I'm not calling you a loser, just saying every loser says that.

Olds I'm curious about what you mentioned about webman. Did webman post his frustrations somewhere here on this site?

With new video poker games regularly coming onto the market I don't think collapsing around us is the right phrase. I would say that casinos have become just as educated about video poker as the players (well some anyway) have.
