That 97% deuces wild video poker game you are playing is worth a negative $15 a hour at max coins. At 500 hands an hour you will hit a royal flush about every 90 hours or so. This means you are paying a little over two times a royal flush for every one you hit. Think about that the next time you cash a white ticket. Playing the same game at single coin costs $4.50 an hour. Of course most people would rather pay double a royal than see one for $62.50.

You'll need all the luck you can get and more. Playing negative VP games is about choosing your poison. Do you want a slow steady death or a grand finale? If that's all you have to play, you can always stay home and collect stamps. :)

If you are going to play 97% video poker games, the best way to play them is as slow and cheap as you can stand. I take a lot of bathroom breaks. I move from machine to machine so it takes more time. I drink lots of coffee. I watch other players knock themselves out shoving hundreds into the machines. Last week I watched a poor guy who had obviously had a stroke sit on a stool and chain smoke cigarettes. There is no shortage of geniuses at my casino.

Oh brother. Phil is saying what people have been trying to tell him for years. He used to be offended by "dollars per hour" statements (it's about playing for fun, not the math!) Now he is the king and a genius for repeating what people have been trying to tell him all along? Too funny.

Now,now. No picking on Phil. He's a delicate flower that needs constant attention.
What is that old saying? In the land of the blind, the one eyed man shall be king.

Phil,
Check your math. Should it be an $18.75 loss per hour?

and where in gods green earth did i say i can beat the game???? where did i say i am going to be ahead forever if i continue to play 97% DW???

i see why Phil doesn't like most of you , i never said nor claimed those things i just asked is is being ahead 730$ on a particular game is losing?? its simply a yes or no question but you went ahead and twisted it around
cause i called you out on it already doing the work for you
You know I'm in agreement with you, I've seen this going on for a while on this site. Basicly you're tagged an idiot if you choose to play where the only thing available is return games. I live in an area surrounded by casinos in three different states and there's not a positive return vp game anyhwere that I know of. That's not to say that a player may be able to play a lot of vp and use all his free play and comps to possibly be considered ahead. I rarely play anymore but when I played a lot the casinos I played in would'nt allow free play to be used on video poker. I miss playing but the cost of playing just got way to high and I always played the best possible pay tables at max, playing the games as close to perfect as possible. I somewhat enjoy reading other people's ideas and opinion's as to ways to control losses where the very best pay tables can't be found. I may be wrong but I won't attack others that don't agree with me.
