Why do you play VP? - Do you go solo or with your significant other or someone else.

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

But where in your post did you write anything about the machine next to you? And who's superstition it was?
The lady I was referring to believed if a player at the end of the row hit a jackpot, it made it less likely she would hit one. She definitely felt single coin players were ruining her chances? I don't know if I correctly identify her belief as a superstition. Let's just say she was uninformed.

I've told this story before. I once walked up to a $5 video poker machine and put in a single $20. I played single coin and hit a $1,000 quad deuce. A lady sitting next to me looked down at my machine and said angrily "Real players play to win!". I cashed out, walked to the ticket redemption machine behind her, walked back to where she could see me and counted out ten $100 bills then walked off. I guess she felt I didn't earn the money or she was mad because she was losing? I didn't give the money back.

Casinos have their clients well trained. They celebrate receiving short term loans and consider getting sheared entertainment.

Bill, you seem to have a very limited scope of understanding. Playing video poker is a lot like fishing. Some people like to catch a lot of small fish and take them home to eat. Some people will catch nothing for a year to get a chance to catch the fish of a lifetime. All fisherman enjoy the game.

If all you expect to gain from video poker is profit, you will most likely be disappointed. If the only time you post on this forum is to contradict, correct or insult another member, you will not enjoy the forum to it's fullest. Video poker is entertainment to many people. It's a career to a tiny few.

We have enough video poker experts to last us into infinity. What we could use are more members who enjoy the game even if they pay to play it.

I'm not disappointed. Nor have I ever found one person who is in a casino for "entertainment."

You must not have met many people?

Gamblers are amazing people. They are the only group of losers who look down on people who play to lose less.

What an absurdly foolish statement. Casinos are all about entertainment! That limb is ready to snap.

Appreciate those who commented on the topic at hand, As always, things somehow get skewered. The bottom line is that folks go to a casino to play VP for different reasons. Some go by themselves, others with someone else. Some of us like to chat and socialize while others like solitude. To each his/her own. All are legitimate ways to play the game.

Of course. The game needs all types of players. If no one plays any casino game unless they have an advantage, the casino will close. There was a time when an informed player could make a little money off the casino. There was a time when a few very skilled and well funded players could live a nice lifestyle off the game. The casino found ways to plug these holes in their balance sheets. Are there any holes left? Very few. Some forum members are living in the past. I don't care if they do. I prefer to live in the present.

I believe the best gambling advice today is to walk into the casino believing you are going to lose. If you don't, it's a pleasant surprise. If you play small and manage your money, you can walk out happy no matter what happens. Beating your head against the wall fighting a multi billion dollar industry is not my idea of entertainment. There are many far easier ways to make money than gambling. Make your money somewhere else and play video poker to relax and chill out. Take a friend. Have a date night and enjoy some quality time with your wife. She'll appreciate it and so will you.
