We never got to the Macys in NYC. In New Haven, we had Macys and the Edward Malley Co next to each other and competing. One of my favorite things to do when we went to New Haven was to ride the wooden escalator in Woolworths. We also liked to play superman in the old and beautiful by the way phone booths.

. Ditto to Ted for his pic of the Good Humor truck too. His actually went up first. Mine was mired in dinosaur land while I tried to figure the best way to get it to the site. I finally took a screen shot on my phone, but there must be another way. I also haven’t figured how to use a spell check on the site here. I’m guessing there is one for the typos I makeadvantage playe wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 11:46 pmted that is fantastic, olds u r right its the toasted almond bar by far !!

Now that our memories are being jogged a bit, I really need to get out and wear my Hopalong Cassidy watch to the casino. I just have to get a nee band for it. I’m hoping it may bring me some luck!

We never had a Good Humor truck in my neighborhood. The Good Humor man had a pushcart with which he went down each block. My favorite was the chocolate éclair. It was $0.15 which in the 50s was a premium price. The other vendors charged $0.10 for a pop. Though it wasn't my favorite, I would buy Borden's ice cream pops at the store because if you mailed in 10 wrappers with a quarter you got a grandstand seat ticket at Ebbets Field for a Dodger game. The catch was you needed a paying adult to accompany you. Since the games they chose were weekday afternoons when my dad was at work, my mother had to take me. Despite my protests, she insisted we sit behind home plate with the protective netting.
BTW, my Hopalong Cassidy "drink milk" cup broke long ago.

I drove one of those in the summer of 86. A neighbor had a nice cream route with one of the panel trucks.
He had a mix 60s model that he used for special occasions and as an emergency replacement. He'd lease it to me on a daily basis. He wore all white but I didn't. It was a fun summer job, I could sleep late and was done by nine most days. It didn't end well as we ended up fighting over the $300 security deposit I'd given him.

I wax nostalgic about the deep-fried McDonald's apple pies.
