Re: taking wins vs continuation?
I for one, agree that it will not affect one's long term results but it most certainly will affect one's short term results.

That is my position --- assuming today you're not quitting forever.
Whether the next 1,000 hands you play come today (when your score is already whatever it is) or next time doesn't really matter. It's 1,000 hands.

one other question. a few years ago, you offered an estimate (an educated guess on your part), of the number of VP players that were net winners, on a regular basis. i cannot remember your estimates back then, but it may have been something like a couple dozen that were routinely earning $75-100k or more per year. this is memory only, not a direct quote.

Notes and Vman, here is the gist of it.
RS hammered the double-up glitch for many years and alledgly made millions off of it. The DU glitch, for those who never heard of it, was that on some versions of the Game King when the double-up feature was enabled the bill acceptor light would turn on. You could then insert some money, then change denomination - say from $1 to $5. Next step was to respond to the double up prompt and your winner would now be payed out at the $5 level instead of the $1 level that was played.
So let's say he was playing $1 DDB and hit AWAK for $2000. The hand isn't really over until you clear off the DU prompt. But while the DU prompt was on the screen, the bill acceptor light would come on, insert some money, change denomination, clear the DU, and presto - the machine would pay off $10,000 instead of $2,000.
Eventually, some other guys got busted for it and the casinos wised up. The guys were charged, but the charges were eventually dropped.
Nonetheless, he claims his progressive betting/changing game volatility system did in fact work. But, the bulk of his VP winnings were from the DU glitch. Some noted machine pros ( MC and AW) seem to accept his story, while others do not.
Years and years of hateful trolling were merely to pass the time until he could come clean about how he is the greatest player of all time. The statute of limitations is 10 years - just in case some casino or prosecutor considered exploiting the glitch a crime. VCT is about the only gambling message board RS is allowed to post on. Although things get a little chippy around here, they can get downright nasty over there.

poker, thank you.
since i made the request to you, i had heard about an article in WIRED magazine, that describes the events around the 2 guys who eventually got caught. interesting read, it is a true story (nothing about rs), no idea if the details as laid out by one of the players is true. surprisingly, although the feds took over the case and nevada is known to be tough on gambling crimes, these guys walked free. they simply played the machines, not as designed, and made a killing.
the question is, how many others may have discovered this glitch, were smarter than the 2 guys that got caught (they made some stupid decisions) and could have made millions, undetected.

The machine does not know that you hit something big the last time you were there. If the machine had access to that information and used it, it would be in violation of gaming regulations. The machine, by law, has to use a fresh deck and fair shuffle for each hand.

I wouldn't normally post on a thread like this. In this case, I believe it's an important concept even for a Recreational player. If you have an advantage like Bob describes here, why would you ever quit playing? The only reason would be if the advantage went away. Despite what some player's claim, you can not turn a negative game positive by walking out ahead. This may work for a while. You may even convince yourself it works. Soon or later the house advantage will catch up to you. Walking out ahead does make you feel better on the drive home. Eventually you have to drive back.
