There is a restaurant with a second floor deck in Friday harbor where you can relax and have a few drinks waiting for the ferry to show up. Very nice.
Thanks for the FH information. i understand about the ferry. We came back from Vancouver Island years ago on the ferry. Sweet C is the type that wants to be there at least 30-60 minutes before the recommended early time. And, we've never missed a flight or ferry. Love that gal to pieces.

Thinking about doing a day trip to Orca Island by walking on the ferry and then renting bikes/mopeds. Any thoughts.
Do it. Orcas Island is much more hilly than San Juan Island. Much prettier too. My nephew got married in Eastsound on Orcas Island about 5 years ago. Had a great time. Didn't see moped rentals though. lots of hills so bikes may be a chore. Glad your wife likes to get to flights, ferries early. My family is the exact opposite. We've missed flights because I couldn't get them out the door quick enough.

Congrats Larry. If you haven't been to the San Juan Islands, they are beautiful. On San Juan Island itself, there is an overlook at a park (Lime Kiln?) where you can see pods of Orcas that are always in the area.
Friday Harbour was our destination. We stayed at a rental north of Roche Harbor on a small inlet at the end of San Juan looking out onto the Speiden Channel watching the seaplanes fly in/out and could see Victoria/Sydney across the straights. Great whale watching trip with Maya's. We caught the new calf and her pod T124 something and the rare male T73 group on the same day in the Haro Strait just west of Lime Kiln and to the north. We went to Lime Kiln and the English Camp the day before our whale watching with Maya's. Our daily routine included a river otter who would eat crabs on the beach or the pontoon boat anchored just in front of the rental and owners home. A doe, her fawn, and yearling who crossed in from of our porch The yearling scared us one day as he slept outside our bathroom window in the shade one day. The day before we left we drove to south end and luckily caught the two humpbacks coming through the strait between San Juan and Lopez. Unfortunately, we brought the Texas weather as it hit 72 on two days. I read your previous post when I asked about casinos and should have PM'd you so we could possibly meet. Thanks your part of the country is one our favorites.
