Getting Lucky Again...

Post by FloridaPhil »

Went to the Tampa Hard Rock today for my weekly shot of VP entertainment. Played quarter Deuces Wild for four hours straight. Nothing special happened today until I decided to switch to dollar play for the last 15 minutes before heading home. Right after I switched denomination, this hand was dealt to me. I rode out the winning streak and cashed out up $900 for the day. Thank you very much....

Congratulations. Exhibit A for DW play.
I had three JOB quads and broke even. Should have switched to DW.

This is the second $1,000 quad deuce I have hit this year. I love the way I play VP now. There are so many advantages for me. When I play max coin quarters, a quad deuce pays $250. That's more than half my daily bankroll in one hand. If I hit at least one in a day, I know I am going home with money.

The variance of Deuces is so low I can play all day without running out of money. I normally hit a few royals a year at quarters. When I switch to dollar play, any significant hand makes money as long as I don't feed it back into the machine. Those two $1,000 quad deuce jackpots are like hitting two extra royals at quarters. Here's the good part, No W-2Gs!

All of these things depend on luck and I'm OK with that. If I get real lucky and hit a $4,000 royal flush, I'll pay the tax.

Nice hit. Your good luck continues. My luck lately has been I can't get a quad but people next to me get them dealt. A person was dealt AAAA and got the kicker on the draw in DDB. They were playing Ultimate X 5 play and had a 10x multiplier on the kicker hand. Playing nickles $1,160 win and no W2G. Nice.

It took me a long time to find my personal sweet spot for my VP play. I want to play as long as possible with my money. I want decent jackpots without waiting 40,000 plus hands for a royal flush. I like a game that exercises my brain more than holding two pair and hitting the deal button.

My current Deuces Wild methodology checks all the boxes. The biggest mistake I made in the past was going to the casino with too small of a bankroll. $250 is not nearly enough ammunition to play max coin single line quarter Deuces Wild all day. I was consistently running out of money causing me to panic and do stupid things. Playing single coin worked, but I missed the $1,000 royals. A $400 daily bankroll seems to be working much better. I could lose it all, but that rarely happens. This last $1,000 quad deuce put me about even for 2019. My free play averages $25-$45 a week and my points are buying our meals and drinks.

Tampa started offering us comped rooms this year. This is a big deal for us as the drive one way to Hollywood is 2 hours longer. Until this year, we only received room offers from Hollywood. The new Tampa hotel should open next year. We expect to spend many an overnight trip there.

I would like to take the time to thank the expert. I know I am not supposed to talk about him, but I think I may get away with an exception this time. Without VPW software, we wouldn't be able to enjoy playing video poker like we do. His software is adaptable to any pay schedule. The slightest change in pay schedule can make a big difference in strategy. The quarter thru dollar games we have to play are 97% and we can't change that. At least we can keep from making the house edge even bigger. I have also learned to pay more attention to our comps. Video poker mini vacations are a nice way to spend retirement. Even if it costs us some money to play, it's minimal compared to the entertainment our friends spend their money on. You don't need to be an AP to learn how to be entertained at a discount.

that hand Phil it does not get any better than that IMO being dealt a cool grand makes us enjoy the casino life style. i still think you are correct 250$ session is enough, most of my jackpot this year (can't speak for future jackpots yet) mostly came from a 25$ bankroll and if i lose 250$ i should walk away and claim its not my day even tho i could be leaving behind 4 deuces or a royal but i guess thats gambling never knowing whats to come next. only 2 hands in DW makes our day and the rest of the hands keep us alive and breathing, when i played FPDW game in vegas on approved VP machine with real casio shuffles with money on the line it felt more easier than playing a 97% game on Winpoker 6 or frugal wolf poker at home, i said it once and i'll say it again those vegas natives have it too easy compared to us east coasters combating the 97-99 percentile games

The choice is to play the games you have or stay home. I never understood the teaching of playing only positive VP games. Twenty years ago, these games were widely available. I remember playing 9/6 Jacks in Biloxi. With free rooms, flights and food those games were very near positive. Today, 7/5 is the norm with 8/5 something to get excited about. Who wants to read a book or go to a class where they tell you not to play the games you have? Positive VP games may still be available somewhere. They sure aren't any where I want to play.

What I believe we should be discussing is the best way to play the common VP games that regular everyday players can play. Teach good money management. Teach people how to calculate a game's odds. Teach perfect hand strategy. Show players how to use training software. Teach them about comp programs. Leave the profit motive and the AP discussions out of it. All that does is urge people to take risks that may not be wise to take.

I am thankful for the knowledge I gained from the experts. That knowledge was very helpful. It allows us to enjoy an activity we both love at a significant discount. The chatter about playing only positive games was a counterproductive diversion I could have done without. If you don't play VP unless you have an advantage, Great. I won't have to worry that you will take my seat.

Steve, and Fp. your in a zone that makes you happy, you can hit-and-run, take a jackpot, go have a nice comped dinner, you are doing exactly what casinos do not want you to do!
They want you to hold still while they grind away at your wallet, with a house advantage!
When you think for yourself, play for your self, and do what you can to disrupt there plan, you will encounter some countermeasures from the bean counters, consider it a compliment and stay the course.
Now, as to my self, flawless implementation of this plan is a work in progress. :?:
