It’s none of my business, but I can vent. I saw an $8,000 JOB RF yesterday. It was so stunning that I shook his hand and left. Upon returning in a half hour, I was even more stunned. He not only stayed. He was standing and commandeering adjacent machines. The most perplexing greed.

I don't understand what's so perplexing.

For some reason, this casino was having a good promotion and the player thought a $2 JoB machine was good for that promotion. (This scenario has happened to me thousands of times --- although it could be bigger or larger machines. ). He happened to hit a royal flush, which you saw. No big deal. It's a 40,000-to-1 shot. (It's only stunning to you because you play smaller stakes. Royals themselves happen regularly.) But if the promotion was still going on, and it was still good, there would be plenty of reason to stay and play.

Knowledgeable players do not use the event of a royal flush as a stopping point --- unless, of course, it's a progressive and once the royal resets it's no longer a good play. If I hit a $100,000 royal during a promotion, that would be no reason to stop.

Players who have no idea of the winning process and are trying to shuck and jive their way to victory could use this as a reason to stop. These people, after all, concentrate on today's score. That's not the way winning players think.

Finding a good promotion and playing it is intelligent gambling. I don't find that perplexing at all. Perhaps there are extenuating circumstances you didn't share that makes it perplexing, but what you shared so far sounds pretty ordinary to me.

Then he must be a big picture guy intent on achieving a certain volume. It wasn’t CET, so no Diamond in Day. It wasn’t Borgata, so no 15X slot dollars. Ocean Casino Resort; no promotion I could ascertain. They do treat me surprisingly well, so they must really roll out the red carpet for him. He sure must want comps and perks to continue and not risk the faucet turning off. He was intense, both hands rHu

The promotions make all of the difference long term. Like the other night when I gave back my good hits to the tune of 2000 bucks just to attain Platinum status by the end of that night. That is going to give me which I value exactly as cash between 3000 to 4000 in free play alone over the next 6 months. Rooms at least another 3000

even valuing them at a discount of 100a nite which is really low The other nite, I couldn’t get a room at Mohegan Sun. I checked my rate on line and called. Could you believe they wanted 519 bucks? Food and gifts a few thousand more. I hate to lose money like anybody else, but if this is how I like to spend a good part of my retirement.......I realize they will still expect a certain play level from me, but at least there is no pressure. Hopefully, playing I will be able to stay in that minus 2 percent range over the next 6 months or so.

I don't have any specific information about that casino at that time.

But often there are "invited guest events" where those who were invited get the promotion (which might include a point multiplier, drawing, free gift for showing up, bigger gifts if you play a certain amount, etc.) Every promotion is different and there's an infinity of ways it could be put together.

If that were true this time, he might very well have a reason to play on a particular day that you know nothing about.

It could also be the money isn't particularly important to him and he just wants to play. This guy doesn't have to be an intelligent player. It's just that his actions were consistent with a lot of scenarios beyond a simple 'take the money and run' philosophy.

Or, perhaps, he is not a player who thinks that hitting one good hand is a signal to take the rest of the day off.

If you are playing at an advantage, stopping after hitting any random hand is a mistake. If playing at a disadvantage, the smart play was quitting before you hit that hand.

I see people hit royals or other jackpots all the time and they keep playing. And around here, these people aren't AP's either. They just like to play.
