Back From Vegas

Post by case »

Just returned home after a week in Las Vegas. This was a solo trip as my wife and her sister were away on a bus trip. Flew out of Detroit on Spirit (the airline everyone hates). Had 75% off offer so booked flights 76 dollars each way. Plane was on time and the return flight was on their newest plane with more leg room. Seats could be more comfortable but at such a cheap price how can I complain.

Arrived very early at 7:30 am Vegas time and had rented a car for the first day for just 26 dollars. Picked up the car at the airport rental and it was a Volkswagen Passat diesel. Took me a few minutes to get into the trunk as the latch was hidden behind the VW crest that had to be pressed to get at latch.

So first stop was at South Point. I had not been here for maybe 4 years as it is a bit out of the way but not far from the airport. Lots of decent video poker but no full pay so to speak. DDB at 9-6 and DB at 9-7. Lots of BP 8-5. For those unsure what those numbers are BP 8-5 means bonus poker 8 for a full house and 5 for a flush. Actually did not stay here long maybe 45 minutes and not having any luck so I left. My room for the next two nights was at Orleans so I drove over there to check my luggage so it did not get too hot sitting in the trunk of the car.

When I got there I had forgot they had senior day (young at heart). I was getting hungry and they had had a free buffet after getting just one tier credit. So I played and decided to wait until 11:00 am and have the free lunch. They had the usual foods but overall this buffet is quite good as they revamped it a couple years ago. It is large with many offerings. I enjoyed an omelette, carved turkey and a few vegetables. I had just come off of a keto diet for the past 3 months that saw me go from 196 pounds down to 157 so I was anxious to try some carb foods but when I looked at my plate it was still low carb. So I threw in some cheesecake....because I can!

After lunch I headed for the las Vegas Advisor to but this years coupon book. From there drove to Palace Station to play some full pay VP. They have done a nice job with this place since the remodel. Left there and drove to Ellis Island. They have good food, good craft beers and decent video poker. By decent I mean 9-6 DDB at five cents right up to 5 dollars. Not too many places have 9-6 nickels. You can also play DB, BP and a few other games. However not all machines are the same and you must look for the better pay tables.

Finally got back to Orleans where I was dropping the car off and sleeping. Was really tired as I had been up since 4am Detroit time or 1am Vegas time.

Next day gambled at Orleans. They also have 9-6 DDB and 9-6-5 DB at nickels up to two dollars (10 coin dollars). These machines are between the stage and bar at the front of the casino and thew B-Connected club. Other machines are not as good around the casino. It turned out to be a terrible day as I lost all day. I had 30 dollar food credit so that was my meals for the day. Also had 50 dollars free play.

Friday I took the free shuttle to Gold Coast where I was booked for 3 nights but was also double booked downtown the 3rd night so would check out a day early from Gold Coast. All the rooms on this trip are comped or free. I was at Gold Coast on a slot play offer of 3 free nights and 100 free slot play (or video poker) Used a match play at Gold coast from the coupon book (also used one at Orleans). Both were for 10 dollars match. I put on red at roulette and lost both. Again did not do good at gambling here. VP was not cooperating.

Rented a car from Gold Coast to get me downtown for 35 dollars for the day. I pre booked all this from home and kept shopping to get the lowest rate. I would drop the car off at Main Street Station downtown that same evening.

So left a day early from GC, just left my keys in the room. Stopped again at Ellis Island to use a 10 dollar match play, free t-shirt and 10 dollar free slot play from the coupon book. I lost the match play and was 0 for 3 on those to date. However I hit a 25 cent royal playing BP and also a 4 of a kind with the kicker. Had the 7.99 steak dinner with my comps and left.

I will speed this report up as it is getting long. Did a bunch of casinos on the Boulder Highway using match play and a few other coupons. It was Sunday and Sams Town had 11x points on VP so I milked that for what it was worth. Returned the car and spent the night at Golden Gate. If you have never stayed here this place would shock you. It is just "ok" if you are alone but not good if you want to impress your spouse. The rooms are real small, loud, and the bathroom is even smaller. |The bathroom door won't even open all the way as it hits the toilet. The beds are comfy and that is all the good I can say. They give me great offers. 3 free nights, food and free play. So I book the 3 nights, spend one night and then double book some free rooms at the California just down the street.

I used more coupons all over downtown like 25 match at both Golden gate and the D. In total I used 9 match coupons and lost 7 of them. However I did it the two 25 dollar ones. I hit a second royal playing the full pay machines at the Downtown Grand. That was 2 royals in 2 days and that would be the bright spots on poor VP trip.

So 7 nights in Vegas and all rooms were comped. Did not pay for any meals as either had free or 50% off coupons and I used my B-Connected points. I have more than 300 dollars in comps available from B-Connected as I always hit the 11 X comp days every trip and this dollar amount seems to be increasing.

Grabbed the WAX bus from downtown back to the airport for 2 dollars. The bus only stops 3 or 4 times between downtown and airport, takes the freeway and lets you out right near the airport doors.

So it was another cheap trip with lots of gambling, food and entertainment. Fremont still has the usual nudity, homeless people and other assorted freaks. There is a guy on Fremont who has a sign that reads "kick me in the nuts" with a tip bucket beside him. People come up and kick as hard as they can. give him a few bucks and move on. I saw a construction guy working on the new Circa casino kick him with steel toed work boots. He grimaces in agony for a couple seconds and says "next". I can think of better ways to make a living

So 2 royals and I was still down 150 dollars. The 4 of a kinds were absent for the most part and also I have a keno fix that always needs to be scratched and it cost me. I maybe played 40 dollars in slots as other than a few advantage games it is not my thing.

Will be returning in late September with my wife as we booked another really cheap flight. We have a couple tournaments to do on that trip.

That sounds like a great trip. Other than the guy on Fremont. It's depressing that anyone would actually kick him. Who raised these people? :(

Sounds like a September to look forward to!

Nice trip. It's funny how everyone always say they hate Spirit, but the planes are always packed.

It's kind of like how everyone says the people in Walmart are ugly. Well, if you saw them... you were there too.

The most recent time I was at South Point, they had scads of NSU deuces (99.73%) machines. According to vpFREE2, they're still there. Did you see them?

They've been there for years. Even at most bars. Hope I have time to pay them a visit in a couple of weeks. But probably have a lot of places I'd like to visit. Lol

WTG Case. Well planned out trip , lots of freebies, minimal exposure.
My wife and i try to basicly follow a similar track and enjoy what we enjoy without over-playing.
Happened to hit a Royal each of last four trips out there while following our grandsons college baseball spring trips.
Gold Coast, lots of good machines, Ellis for the ritual steak, downtown for freak-show and heavy coupons.Free drinks ,life is good .

Yes they are always full. Both ways there were no empty seats
