Helping out others/Freebies

Post by Lucky Larry »

Just a quick thought to share with my fellow players. Growing up with parents raised during the depression we were always encouraged to help our fellow man/woman. Here is a little way we can each help make life better for others.

Toiletries:
We travel frequently and we collect all our toiletries/coffee/tea, etc. from the rooms and ask for additional if we stay multiple days. We collect these and then donate them to our local women's shelter or the senior citizen's centers. The first option is obvious but the second is a also a great option. Before mom died in her mid 90's, she frequented a local center. What we found was that these toiletries/coffee/tea were like gold for many of the seniors who were on fixed income. So when you travel consider collecting these items and donating them to those in need. Laundry bags work great for storing until full.

Freebies:
We all get them-jackets, pots, pans, clocks, pillows, blenders, watches, ....you name it. After a while it gets to having a closet or two full (since we usually get duplicates -two of us+family members). I mean how many juicers do I need? This dilemma was resolved when we decided to hold a yearly family drawing. With the family all together, usually Christmas, we place all of the items out on display and have a note pad (yeah those too) for family to list their name on the pad for each item they want. Then after the dinner, presents, etc. we pull all the items together and have all those whose name was on the item list get together. A pair of dice are used to determine the winners of the gift(s) - high number wins. Since their are often multiples of each item several players can win. Left over items are donated to charity.

Go ASTROS!!!

Great suggestions LL. Here's a few others we have done. Our dentists give us toothbrushes every visit. We accumulate a good number after a couple of years. They get donated to a group collecting for soldiers deployed overseas. As for excess household gifts from the casino, they primarily went to a college student for their dorm/apartment.

After reviewing the replay footage, the ruling on the field stands. The originating poster is penalized 15 yards for not posting this in all the other forums just like FAA does his trip reports. Repeat second down.

Otherwise; great suggestions all. I used to gather and save all my hotel room coffee packets and then give them to an elderly couple to use. They have since passed away.

No issue with the content. Just the bizarre placement, enabled by the ever vigilant administrator.
