COVID-19 Casino Impact

Post by Lucky Larry »

Quick story and some observations from an "old timer".
Two of our kids made the run to Golden Nugget Lake Charles Friday night for 2 nights figuring it might be their last for a while. No problems Friday but Saturday night they started playing and then went next door to L'AuBerge du Lac. Upon arrival back at GN from next door and post the La. Emergency Declaration GN had been cleared out by security and then they began re-admitting up to 250 patrons max on the floor. 4000 machines, lots of tables, 3 bars and 250 people at a time. With lines to get in looking like O"Hare airport this weekend they opted to go up the room, pack and come home.

Observations:
One of the major social problems at GN is the large number of people, especially 20's-30's who go to GN, congregate around the tables/bars/open areas and who mainly drink and socialize. Did the same thing when I was growing up-when I wasn't working on Friday/Saturday night. Generally, our gatherings were parking lots since all but the drive ins shows and drive in diners were all that were open after 10:00pm. Some of you older posters know what I mean. :o

Seems like to me a huge casino could condone off huge areas and let 250 patrons into each area. With the GN layout this could easily be accomplished and provide 4 areas each with a bar, tables, and roughly 1000 machines for the 250 patrons each.

Sweet C and I made a recent run to our favorite diner, post peak time, and opted for an outside table instead of the anticipate take-out order we were prepared to take. We talked while we ate alone outside that many of the restaurants could easily reserve every other table to increase the spacing. Heard New York was requiring restaurants to go to half capacity and this makes sense.

Going to be interesting to see how Tilman Fertitta, GN owner, handles the financial crisis, his casinos are impacted, the Houston Rockets are shut down and his thousands of restaurants are now being impacted as well. Tough times ahead for him. But, tougher for millions of others who are less capable or financially capable to handle the crisis.

So I would be interested in hearing your stories of how your casinos are handling this issue. Be safe everyone.

Double L - All: schools; churches; casinos; bars, restaurants and nightclubs, and some others are closed in the State of Illinois for at least the next 2 weeks.

Red light and other traffic cameras: are still open.

We have another trip planned to Horseshoe Bossier City this coming Sunday. Fully expect it to be closed by then. When we were at Horseshoe a couple of weeks ago it was packed. This is going to shut all the casinos down for a while. Best wishes, stay safe, and good health to everyone out there. This COVID19 outbreak is about to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I just read TF’s flimsy book. Glad that it was a borrowed copy!

GS prediction is 3,200 S&P when the smoke clears. Sweating it out, despite the closed gyms.

Just got text from my host. Horseshoe Bossier City, La. closed today at 1 PM. I am assuming all casinos in Louisiana are now or in the process of being shut down until further notice. No sports, no casinos.
