Common sense is seeing things as they are; and doing things as they ought to be.

Would any of us, really? Make the effort to get to the casino (for many of us it's a one or two hour drive), get a lucky hit early on, and then turn around and go home? Certainly not me.olds442jetaway wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 11:11 pmYet I go to the casino with a 1,000 bankroll limit and never quit when I am 100 bucks ahead at some point in a session.

Same. But if I lived 5 or ten minutes away, I would do it. I do know a few people retirees living down the street from the casino making a comfortable part time income doing that. They actually quit when they make 40 bucks or so. I have known some of them for more than 20 years. Strictly vp players. They just know when to get out near the top on the sine curve. No gimmick games. Usually just 99.54 JOB. A few play Deuces Wild or DDB but not many. Most are quarter players. The ones I know do admit to losing every so often, but overall they at least say they are way up.

I quit on any premium BP quad, SF or RF as a rule. Even going in the evening, it's a killer commute. A hundred doesn't move the needle and my BR will never exceed $500. In fact, that's been too much.

My problem is I just like to play and it doesn’t matter the denomination. If I go there it’s to mostly play, but it’s also to have nice dinners on them, nice rooms for a change of scenery, still enjoy driving even with the lunatics on the road, and chit chat a bit with friends and employees up there. It’s 80 percent to play though and strange, cause if it’s not for money, I will just fall asleep playing. I just need better discipline and I will be fine and have minimal losses for the year. Speaking of the market, I don’t know how everyone got sucked in when the market opened. Inflation and the world situation was ignored and people pounced on a bit of minimal good news before the market opened. They didn’t suck me in though. The Billionaires and funds started selling to preserve their early gains and as usual, the little guy got stuck. I had a substantial loss too, but for now, just on paper.

Yeah, I love to play so much I don’t even leave the premises on half my trips. No good. I’m burying my card and walking to a restaurant. Once I get into a playing zone I’m in trouble. Then it’s all about digging myself out of the inevitable hole and a day of pain. Crisis mode becomes the mentality on what is supposed to be a relaxing hobby.

I don't want to be seen as a "doubting Thomas", but in this case, I definitely am one!olds442jetaway wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 1:45 pmThe ones I know do admit to losing every so often, but overall they at least say they are way up.

Don’t blame you. Otherwise, I think they would play dollars. I’m sure they are up often, but long run, I kind of doubt it. They are probably factoring in the free coffee and which would cost 10 bucks and maybe even the free play if they get it. Who knows. I do enjoy both of those things myself. I think the market jitters are here to stay for awhile. Still think a larger correction is looming. Lots of 2024 gains have been erased already. My gains had just about equaled my Vp losses for this year before recent losing market sessions. The stock ups and downs are for now on paper, but the Vp ones aren’t.

Did you itemize those losses away for federal? I saved almost three large by itemizing so it was a no brainer...MS CEO probably dancing in streets of Paris or Sydney with your donation.olds442jetaway wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 1:24 amMy Fed and State returns went in last week. Uncle Sam will be jumping in the streets as will the Gov of Ct. unfortunately, Bizarroworld CEO will be dancing as well with my Vp play the last few months.
