There is a great segment of that famous movie on youtube. It came out in 1971. The big guy passed away about 7 years later. I will keep this short as I can Ted. I was 19 and my girlfriend at the time 18. One day she took a train to NYC with her gf and wandered into a small bar. The big guy was on a break from a set and he was alone. He asked the girls to come have a drink with him and called them Littke girls. They were both tiny and looked 14. They had cokes and Mr. Wayne had straight whiskey. They chatted until he had to go back on set. They said he was a perfect gentleman. I think that was in 1968. I don’t know unfortunately what John Wayne was working on that day. It could have had something to do with True Grit, but I’m not sure. The girls said they didn’t talk about his movies at all just small talk.
