David Beasley was once considered one of the Republican parties brightest young stars. Elected one of the youngest Governors in US history, he was a media darling. Then he announced he wanted to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina flag, saying the state could never until while this symbol waved over the state. Republicans turned against him and he lost his re-election bid.
Mr Beasley went into the private sector and for the last few years has lead the World Food Program.
World Food is a United Nations program, one of many the trump administration has been trying to defund.
Today, Gov. Beasley and WFP were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
