One other thing "outside" of Player's Club rewards.....USE the Coupons!  Granted, you probably won't get many offers in the mail until you join a Player's Club and then use the card in a machine, but after that, you'll get them every month from those casinos.  Check out the coupons you get with the POV from Las Vegas Advisor.  After you've made a few trips to Vegas and most Indian Casinos, you'll get offers for discounted and free rooms and meals.  We got one of the best meals I've had in Vegas at El Cortez...FREE because of coupons.  They do want you out there because if you ain't there, you ain't plugging THEIR machines!

Coupons are so readily available, it's a shame not to use them. If you're driving from Southern CA, you can pick up coupon books in Baker, Barstow and all points from there to Las Vegas. We saved a bundle on our last trip on food alone!

As for tips on comps, MikeA is correct, VP players get 1/2 the comp value for dollar in because according to the casinos, there is more playthrough.  If you play VP and are interested in the comp value, play the simplest like Jacks or better with perfect strategy.  No brainer there but where's the fun.  Check the pay tables for sure.  Blackjack as well as all table games are rarely even rated at less than $25.  Sure the PB will take your card and write down your buy-in but he won't pay attention to your action.  Bellagio won't even rate <$25 player.  Check the back of their card.
That's why my husband, a craps junkie, married a slots/VP player.  When we go to Vegas we try to stay at either the MGM or Mandalay Bay.  Yes, I know they're big "megaresorts", but I like the rooms/food/amenities and he likes the tables/central location.  I recently received an email from MGM saying that on our next stay we're eligible for 3 free nights and 1/2 off the rest of our stay.  Now, my question (especially for chicagodiceman) is: is it worth it to get a Host ?  _I_ think our level of play may make it worth it ...... $3k/day for 5-7 days, 2-3 times a year.

Fusschia, I was wondering about whether or not I should ask for a host when I go to the Wynn.   Everybody says you have to be a "whale" if you want to be comped at the big resorts but I like all the luxuries you get staying at these places.  That's one one the reasons I like Vegas so much and the rooms in the Vegas resorts are alot less expensive then staying at a resort like Atlantis in the Bahamas.  A comparable room there cost 2-3 as much.  I think your action merits asking for a host.  The worst that can happen is he'll tell you you play doesn't qualify for more than you been offered but you never know, you might be able to get all your nights comped+ and if they approve your play you'll have a personal connection with your favorite casino and that can get you all sorts of perks.  Although I play 3-4 hrs a day, I mix up playing BJ, Pai Gow Poker, VP and Slots so I wouldn't think my total play would qualify especially since my husband doesn't play nearly as much as I do and I'm afraid of being "laughed at" by the big guys.

Wynn has the hottest drink servers(is that OK?)in town-bar none.  Caesars Palace is awesome-but I find the machines are very tight there.

I just got back from Vegas and played at the Wynn for the second time.

This is a great casino. Air quality is very good, spacing is generous, pay tables decent, drink servers
hot, seating is comfortable and overall a relaxing environment. I found it easier to focus on the game here and I think it may have made a difference. Over two, four hour sessions I hit multiple quads including Aces w/kicker playing 10 play DDB, .25. Needless to say, I like this place.    Both the wife and I got a card and we joined points. We are moderate players but have not paid for a room in Vegas for some time now. I'll let the forum know if my moderate play gets me any comps at the Wynn. We only played one day there but we played the same as if we were at our comp hotel the MGM.

We just returned from Vegas.  Stayed at Wynn but too timid to request a host.  Husband and I played a few hundred each a day for 4 days at slots and video poker and qualified for a comped night and a couple of meals.  Will definitely request a host on the next trip.  It was our first stay at Wynn and we really liked it there.  Beautiful room, good food, great service.  We really liked the bingo game they have which all club members can participate in if they are playing on any machine.  My husband won $65.  Wynn also has his own Megabucks slot that was alot of fun to play.  Wynn has 3 Super xPay slots at 8/5 JB.  The other strip casino  SXP machines were all 7/5, yuckkkkk!  Only complaint about Wynn was check-in area too small and there were long lines.  Hoping to go back in Feb. for my birthday.  Anybody know of any SXP machines in Vegas with 9/6 odds?
