Cool story !

Post by marie meijer »

An elderly woman in a wheel chair was playing slots at a central Michigan Indian casino. (Michiganders will know the location) A guy stopped, said he had been having a good day and handed her $200.! Hope he had no regrets during his next dry spell. Gotta scoot for now and borrow me a wheel chair!

I saw a similar thing happen at the Golden Gate.  A couple from Wisconsin had been playing at the $3 Blackjack table for several hours.  There was also a very elderly lady playing minimum bets with a small buy-in and was gradually losing it.  This Wisconsin couple said they had to leave and instead of coloring up and cashing out, they just shoved their table stakes over to that elderly woman and before she could say anything at all, they left the casino. There must have been well over $200 in chips and coins.

I read a tidbit today in the LVA about a misprint. Seems a casino patron to the Mt Airy casino had hit a jackpot and the casino misprinted their winnings as $108 million. After investigation, the LVA reporter found out it was actually $108 thousand. Thats 3 extra zeroes worth of error! And quite a difference on the W2-G

I've got a cool story also. I was playing VP last week and decided to take a bathroom break. Before I entered the mens restroom a womed ask me for a dollar and I just ignored her and went in the bathroom. I went up to the urinal unzipped and felt a tap on my shoulder, it was the woman and she still wanted that dollar. I did finish what I came into the restroom to do and she followed me to the sink and waited until I washed my hands and walked out the door behind me still asking for that dollar. Security finally came and escorted her out the doors. I do regret not giving her that dollar because she obviously needed it bad.

Read today in the LVA newsnotes that Nevada Palace's last day of operation is Feb. 29th to make way for Cannery east coming summer 08'. Not a cool story but newsworthy nonetheless.

A California man won a settlement against the IRS claiming his gambling losses against the IRS. He had inexcess of 2 million in losses yet no records other than atm receipts and cancelled checks. The court sided with the man despite the fact he had no recorded evidence of his losses as the IRS and many gambling experts suggest you keep if in fact you decide to file your losses. He is a previous lotto winner who gambles like a whale and his installments will end in 2 years. Again, not a cool story but newsworthy nonetheless!

Harrahs Entertainment group was bought out by private investors for 17.1 billion. Also, Hooters will be de-themed to the tune of $135 million. Say goodbye to the hoochie mama orange shorts and halter tops at the Hooters hotel/casino. They didn't say whether or not the Total rewards program for Harrahs will be changing or not but I suspect they will like all other player card programs around LV.

Okay, it's an uncool story re casino manners or lack of. It was a crowded, smoky Sunday at a casino. Empty machines were non-existent. One circled a bank and grabbed a chair when the opportunity arose. I dove for an empty chair and was surprised to hear an older man bellow "I was going to sit there!" "I was here first and besides I have a broken leg!" I replied, the cast was obvious. He snapped back " You shouldn't be in a casino with a broken leg!", unkindly. Do you think he was having a bad day? It seems casinos can bring out the best and the worst in people.

He was having a bad day.  YOU were being a trooper, making the trip with a bum leg.

Many years ago I broke a couple of fingers playing softball, but that didn't stop me from visiting the local casinos.  I just switched to the other hand for VP-playing.    A regular player I see at one of my fave places once tore her Achilles tendon and was gimping around for months, but that didn't stop her either.  So if you see that particular gentleman again, tell him to stop whining.
