winning machines

Post by duckhunter »

The post about the full pay and positive pay was great, confusing but great.  I have a question about the machines, My wife and I pay a lot well as much as we can with distance and money concerns usually about 2-3 times a week, and we have noticed over the years that some machines play better than others.  This is usually on progressives, same pay tables, etc their will be about 10-15 machines in each batch, probably 3 machines will play, hit the Royal over time, same machines.   I know the odds about a Royal but these machines hit far more the the others in the same area.  The Progressives rarely gets over 1600. on quarters.   Has anyone seen this and how could this be if all the machines have the same tables, RGN chips etc.?

DH,  Yeah, that topic was confusing to me too.  I'll take the lead from SM and from now on, speak of Positive Expectation or Positive Return rather than Full Pay.I don't see how this could be but maybe there are conditions of which I am not aware with this bank of machines.  The ones that you see hitting all the jackpots...are they in a better location than the other machines?  I mean the only way I can see certain machines in a bank getting the majority of hits would be that they are the machines in the bank that are played the most often.

It would be interesting to hear from a casino tech who sees the payouts. Do certain machines in a bank payout significantly better than others of the same denomination???

There are many OTHER explanations to explain what we see during our limited time in casinos. While we may see a particular machine hit more often in the morning, others may see different machines hit more often at night. Without KNOWING the actual payout we are just projecting our limited experience over the entire time the machines are played.

OTOH, I have noticed the same thing which is highlighted by the fact that other people are drawn to the same machine and it is usually one of the first ones taken in the bank. Of course, since they are playing at the same times I usually play that means they are seeing the same events as me. So, without the answer to the question above I don't think there's any way to know for sure.

Shadow, I know its purely mythical or coincidental but it seems I get a lot more action from the machines at the ends of the banks(same game same denom). No i don't concentrate my play on the ends but I do notice the hits more frequently on the ends.WEIRDDDD. There's a bank of triple play progressives at Sams near the Boulder entrance, nickels on one side, quarters on the other. Last trip out to LV, I hit several quads playing DDB but only on the ends. Do slots play the opposite a loaf of bread?

I do think the end machines get more play than other machines. Maybe this is the simple answer.

By this I take it to mean, it is just a matter of what machine is being played and what machine is idle. An idle machine can't hit, just like you can't win the lottery if you don't have a ticket.

I too tend to end up at an end machine and some of the reasons mentioned apply.  But truthfully, I end up at those machines primarily because they are the first ones I come to!  I would imagine that is the case with a lot of the banks and that if stats could be gathered, we would see that the end machines got significantly more play than those in the middle.  I have no way of confirming that, but I would be very much shocked were it not to be the case.
