I agree about being prepared to quit before the royal hits. Fortunately I have some constraints to make me stop gambling with any game. 1. I only take cash to the casino - no ATM card & I absolutely refuse to use a credit card for an advance (plus spouse would not be happy). I know someone who got to the point of reaching their credit limit on the card due to advances and couldn't pay it off. 2. I like to be home for dinner, tho I have been known to stay longer if I'm doing well. 3. I use a "casino bank" (search Amazon for them), which I put winnings in but can't get it out until I get home where the key is. Of course this only works if you put winnings in it lol. 4. This incentive is a new one: Friend just moved here and gambles, so when we go together I'll have someone to keep me in check.
It does bother me that there are no player points, which would help me reach a high level card status. Oh well - I'll take the money instead.
Thank you for all the tips & suggestions, I really appreciate it.

If you're not inserting a player card, then the casino can't accurately track your results. That's probably good for your longevity because many casinos will eventually back off a long-term winner.2nd breakfast wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 12:02 pmIt does bother me that there are no player points, which would help me reach a high level card status. The most fun I ever had playing VP (besides hitting a big one) was a royal race. I used to play a 9/5 DDB $1 5 meter game with a 1% meter and decent club benefits. Generally the bank of machines was pretty quiet, but sometimes the royal would climb to $8-$10k +. Then, you had to wait for a seat. 12 players playing as fast as they could until the royal falls, or until they went bust. 12 players banging away and those 5 meters were really zinging.
I got to play a few races, but never collected the big prize.

You could potentially have 7 meters on a DDB game. According to vpfree2, Jerry's Nugget in Vegas has a 6-way DDB 9/6 progressive. I've seen it, and the meters are sloooooowww.pokerpokerpoker wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 11:36 amI used to play a 9/5 DDB $1 5 meter game with a 1% meter and decent club benefits.
I'm confused about accounting for meter rise. It feels wrong to add the full meter rise, but it must have some value greater than zero.
As a real-world consideration, rising progressives attract other players who diminish my opportunities to snag the jackpot I've built up.
I'm trying to analyze this from a non-superstitious perspective.

One thing that has yet to be mentioned in this thread. Are you able to write off W2-Gs if you hit the big hands? That should affect your play as well.

I didn't want to go down that rabbit hole, but it's true taxes can be a major impediment. Some states are worse than others for gambling taxes.
This particular game generates a signer on both royals and AWAKs.

Oh, don't you worry. When you lose they get their cut too, from the casino's revenue.
