Best time , funniest thing and the worst time

Post by duckhunter »

What would you say was your best day, the funniest thing your Worst day at a Casino.?
Ours (I say that because we share the money) was when my wife hit the Sequel Royal at the Sheraton Casino, and tied is when we walked up to a $5.00 dollar machine and she put 3 five dollars coins in it and hit it for $5,054 first pull.
The funniest thing happened when I was playing Blackjack at the Hollywood Casino.  First you must understand that the people in Ms, really don't care how they look in a Casino,  I have seen people dressed up and I have seen people come in from the fields and off duck blinds with the rubber boots still on.  This was the case, a couple of farmers (had coveralls on (blue kind) with one strap off, both with baseball hats with sweat rings on them, looked like they just got of the tractor.   They sat down at the table were I was playing and  the Dealer  not a really ruff looking man stopped  and pulled up his belt and held his hands in the air for the camera and the one Farmer looked at the other one and said, Well Jim the whole Dam Casino and we pick a table with a queer Dealer.
and the worst is: I was playing at Gold Strike and there was a older man (older than me) whom I had seen before and hoped he didn't sit by me, looked like he had been sleeping in the ditch and smoked(like a train) and kept his face about 3inches from the machine, but he came and sat by me.  He asked me if I smoked and I told him no, I never had and he moved the astray to the other side of the machine.  I wasn't winning and was about to leave and decided to ask him if he wanted some glasses (I have about 30 pair of the 2X and had several pair in the van) and he turned to me, with no teeth and said no that he was legally blind, (I felt really bad then) but he began to talk to me and told me how he lost his sight in the service but his best friend was going to take him to the Va for a operation and maybe they could fix his sight.  The more he talked the more I listened and the worst I felt for this man, and I realized that my worst day could never be as bad as his, and he was happy.

duckhunter, Thanks for sharing fun stuff! 1. Halloween can be a real fun time in Vegas even though masks are not allowed in casinos. Two costumes stand out in memory. At MGM, a full size, realistic-looking camel walked by with two people filling out the costume, like the front and back of a horse costume. Hysterical! Another young couple cleverly dressed like old time Vegas, gangster and his moll. He wore a zoot suit and hat and she had a long black flowing robe trimmed with ostrich feathers that reached the ground. Hot, appropriate costumes but I couldn't figure out why everyone in the packed casino was getting really crazy watching them.  It probably had something to do with the itsy bitsy teeny weeny black bikini from the front view that she wore for the first time.(Hah, made you start singing, did I) 2. I had been playing progressive quarter machine at MGM, Detroit, for way too long. That progressive had my name on it and was destined to hit soon. Enter, young couple: Probably carded when they entered, probably first time in the big city, first time off the farm, first time in a casino, first time playing video poker. Probably had no clue re strategies. Probably never practiced for hours on end on the computer, as I have heard tell some addicts do... Got the picture. You know what's coming but stay with me. He puts $10 in, she stands behind him, he is loudly verbal about every play. They were more cute and amusing than obnoxious, but cute and amusing would probably wear thin fast. "Lookit that!I just won ten dollars, wow, TEN DOLLARS, we're rich!" You get the picture. Everyone could hear them for machines around. So he saves a queen of clubs and the rest of the royal fell into place! They exploded. She is jumping up and down, doing that winners dance thingy, "I get half, I get half, I GET HALF,  I    GET    HALF !"  I wonder if they are still friends! It was way past time for me to leave!

I don't remember if I've told this one before - it would go into the "Unusual People" category...

I was at the local Riviera one night, and saw an unusually dressed woman waiting at the cashier window.  She was middle-aged, nicely made up with every hair in place...and wearing genuine Winnie-the-Pooh jammies.  Clean and neatly pressed, with not a wrinkle in them.  I thought at first that it was just some new fashion thing I wasn't up on, so I checked out the reactions of passing women - they were gawking as well.

Bad times, I can name so many that I cannot bring to mind a single worst trip.  Good and funny, now that is a different story.  I will concentrate on good.  First off, was a trip to Vegas about 8 years ago.  I went with a gambling buddy of mine, who at the time, was quite in debt to me.  However, his company on such trips was worth it so I offered to stake him for $300. At the same time I made it clear that if he lost that he would be playing the gum-ball machines at the local supermarket.  I did not have much hope for that amount to sustain him for the whole trip but he had been through a lot going through a divorce..  so I thought that we could give it a try.

Anyway, when we landed in Vegas we hit up our favorite haunt Fiesta Rancho.  We weren't there for an hour before he hit a quarter royal. I thought GREAT!  Give me back my $300!!  Meanwhile I was not doing bad myself so I was quite happy.  The next day we were still rolling along.  I had hit one or two Aces with a kicker so I was probably up $5-600.  MY friend Mike was still going and increasing his bank roll as well.  We ended up at one point deciding to split $100 in to a $5 machine but I chickened out at the last minute.  Being a quarter player it seemed like too much of a risk and at that point I did not have the training I have now.  So we cashed out and Mike walks up to a $1 DDb machine.  He threw a c note into the bill changer and started playing.  To make a long story short he hit a diamond royal!  Why is this a good trip for me?  Well at that time he owed me 2 grand and before the royal my prospects were not that good for getting it anytime soon.  So it was a 2grand win for me.  Plus we had all the fun and excitement that goes along with it.  We ended up seeing George Carlin and eating good as well.  Oh and on top of it all I hit another 2-4aces with a kicker on this trip.  All in all a great trip.
How many times can you say you had an all expenses paid trip to Vegas with an extra grand in your pocket?

I have many good stories as any experienced VP player would but one of the worst was actually one of the better ones until I got to Barstow on the way home.  I was in the Jack in the Box about to pay for my meal when I looked in my pocket and realized that I had left my money clip in the room when I checked out at the Palms.  Now all of you are probably thinking I am a moron. Previously somewhere I had heard not leave money on the nightstand because employees with pass keys were sneaking in and stealing valuables.  I did not know how true it was but just to be safe I stuck the money clip with $700 in between the mattress before I went to sleep the last night we were there.  Needless to say, we overslept and I had forgotten it in the room.  Furthermore, the head of security would not go into the room to check to see if it was there because the guest that was in the room did not answer the phone.  I had to wait for two days for the guest to check out before they would check to see if the money clip was still there.  When they did find it the head of security refused to follow my directions to Fed-Ex the money clip to me.  The money clip had sentimental value and a $200 price tag.  Instead he sent it along with the check in a regular envelope(uninsured) which promptly got lost in route to me through the good ole USPS.  Can't tell you how many calls I made trying to get compensated for his blunder.  However, Mr. Maloof did respond to my letter with free reservations on the weekend of my choice.  Nothing special but atleast I was compenstated.

Enjoy but don't laugh too hard...

clwn2-You're right about not leaving any money  - or jewelry or anything of value in your room and that also goes for luggage. Gal was missing $400 from her checked air line luggage when she arrived in Vegas. Before my son realized his work lap top was missing from his luggage in CA, he received a call. Guy had his lap top and figured it was worth about $500. My son called the police and they retrieved his lap top. He just wanted the lap top back and was not interested in pressing charges nor planning on being in that area long. He never saw his digital camera again. He had been on a commuter shuttle like those at airports where you set your luggage on one rack and sit wherever there are empty seats. As people leave it is hard to see if your own luggage is safe.

clwn2 - I DO believe your preposterous story about leaving $700 under a mattress in a casino room because NO ONE is good enough to make that up! SO, I am not trying to win battle of the sexes or say "anything you can do I can do better", however, you inspired me to share one of my worst stories. I had just won $1400 (best-happy thing!) when I was not supposed to be at a casino. Since husband, BIG SAFE, was not with me to help carry winnings, in the privacy of a tiny room, I miserly counted out my winnings again and placed half in one side and half in the other, for safe keeping. If I got mugged in the parking lot, I would still have my bankroll. I stopped at a grocery store on the way home, reluctant to take in that much $. I know people have had their purse or cash stolen from a shopping cart. I retrieved half and put it in my purse and in a weak moment stashed the other 7 crisp, new, one hundred dollar bills in my husband's library book in the car. Not a great place but it would be safer there for fifteen minutes while I grocery shopped. Wouldn't it be funny if the book went back to the library with the money - that's not going to happen, I'll take it out in a few minutes. On my behalf, my life was in chaotic turmoil and my plate overflowing, which is why I escaped to the casino to cope and forget. I'll spare you the boring details and I was very tired. After turning around many times in the store, I was overdue at home and simply forgot. A few days later, when my husband dropped off DVD's at the library drop off box, I handed him his black library book, containing $700. and he dropped that in too. We were running late meeting friends for a performance. A few days later I remembered where I put the $ but we could not remember the name of the book. When the title finally surfaced, the book had been on hold for another patron, and it was on a shelf waiting for the next person to pick it up. Of course, it contained none of my casino wins. Easy come, easy go! (Probably was a CSI trace way of proving money was in the book and able to track down the sticky fingered person. It's too late now.) At least we were not counting on it for food. I wish I could blame a library clerk or my husband, but reality is I know whose fault this was! clwn2, Do YOU think they will call us DUMB and DUMBER? We have something in common, out $700 due to our stup... carelessness! True story, I can't make this stuff up, just reporting. If the heat gets too bad, we can always change our alias like the cat did. Would the next gambler please come forward with their best or worst!

Good story Marie.  No, I do not feel like you tried to one up me.  Most people have pulled a few bonehead moves in their lives.  What we have in common is that we happened to do it with our winnings.

During the first few years I played VP on a regular basis I was on an up and down ride.  You know, it was a  "The thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat" type thing.  Anyway dealing with large losses and large wins threw me into tilt.  To me, winning $1000 for a Royal or losing that much was a traumatic thing.  Sometimes when I won, it was like,  all of a sudden I didn't know what to do with the money.  Should I leave?  Should I stay?  Should I run to the bank and deposit the money?  How much should I leave with?  The list goes on and on.   The same thing went for my losses.  Should I feel bad or should I be like Bob and say that todays score doesn't matter?   That list goes on and on as well...

Nowadays things aren't nearly as up and down.  I am used to losses and even though I still love the wins you probably won't hear me make a peep when I hit the royal because I am used to it.  I can remember watching a guy hit a quarter royal years ago at the Fiesta and not make a peep and thinking the guy was a real sour puss.  Now newer players are probably wondering the same thing about me.  My last royal that I hit was for $1000.  I was quiet while I waited to be paid.  The attendant came up and he acted like I had hit Megabucks or something.  I was wondering to myself if he had any idea how much money I spent in this joint. Incidentally, I made kind of a bonehead move and over tipped him.  It had been so long since I had hit a royal that I had forgotten that it was my policy to tip $20 for that jackpot.  By mistake, I gave $20 to the attendant and the change girl.    Now when I get my first $1 royal then you will hear me but for the most part I am calm.  Losses are the same thing.  They always hurt but usually I am a good sport.  Although, I still have my moments especially when I have had an extended losing streak.  That still torks me.  All the above considered, it is not surprising that we sometimes do some hair brained things like put money beneath the mattress or in a library book.

For now I will just get a good laugh out of it and look forward to the next quad aces or a Royal!

I once found $700 in a book from the libary.
I thought I was just lucky until I found another $700 between the mattress in my hotel room.
