I have been going to las vegas for a number of years and have yet to hit a royal flush !  Is there any hope for me or should I give up and go to slots since it seems like I have no clue when it comes to video poker ????/

Hang in there!  Everyone has periods when they go through long stretches without top winners.  One of the forum regulars holds the record here - something like 500K hands, over a long period of time.  VP is nice in that you can have good days without hitting that top winner.

My husband has the same problem but only plays JOB for a few min. at a time. I wish he could hit a few royals to increase his interest in video poker and enjoy playing as much as I do, for hours at a time. I wish he would learn to play three more games "perfectly" through practice as on this site, to be flexible to play better pay tables as presented and less bored with one game. He does like gambling, casinos, cards, math and science. Try wizard of odds.com for practice with advice. Neither of us will touch slots which seems like tossing coins in a wishing well but he does enjoy black jack. I like to win more than he does and take play more seriously. Several things help me: Take breaks and move around, carry a water bottle and perhaps a snack, as an apple, avoid alcohol, do not play when tired, if a screen is blurry, dark, jumpy, or has sticky keys, move. I'll move if someone is coughing or smoking. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing and go for layers so you are not too warm or too cold. Those little sublime aggravations can throw off your game. Switching games or having to keep track of the time can lead to mistakes. Playing next to talkers is not desirable and can distract you from focusing on perfect pay. Even worse is when someone is trying to teach another how to play, talking non-stop, or asking me about every other play. If I am at a friendly, fun and winning machine, I can put up with or shut out a lot of negatives around me. Bob Dancer said recently that he plays eight games perfectly. Wish he mentioned which games he plays at specific casinos. Probably would not help to know because he's probably in the high roller areas with a larger bank roll. Luck!

If you win money on the machine its "HOT"!
If you lose money on the machine its"COLD"!

You can be "hot" and still lose money, depending on how you define "hot".  You can have a session above the ER for a given game and still finish in the red, say 99.5% for 9/6 DDB (98.98% ER).  That qualifies as hot, doesn't it?  [/QUOTE]

Who's that suppose to help?  I prefer to go with hot machines means you win and if you lose it's cold. How's that hurt anyone or anything? Random events by definition produce some random hot and cold spells, so it's never incorrect to define a losing sitting as having lost on a cold machine or vice-versa.

I wasn't correcting the original poster; I was just adding to what he said.  In fact, here's another scenario - in an hour's play within a session a player hits 4 or 5 or 6 quads.  That certainly qualifies as "hot", for that particular hour.  But if he or she has several hours of dead play before and/or after that nice hour then the session as a whole might be a losing one - "cold".

Nice way to treat a newbie. Please identify a spelling or punctuation error from my above post and I'll make it a learning experience. I assume you're also referring to my post on what full pay machines really are. Nobody here got that right so I put them on the right track instead of blindly following those who made it all up. In THAT case, who cares what the spelling is if you got the message, which it sure looks like YOU did.

Full pay has been used for years and years and your attempt to redefine it is just plain silly. It may not be a perfect term but it will never have anything to do with poor paytables.

BTW, I see in your short meeting with Rob you also picked up his posting style. What a coincidence.

Naw just can't be Rob Argentino. He would have blown up and gone off the deep end by now. He would have started bragging about his bankruptcy and how he has almost reached his 2008 goal in only six hours of play without a royal blah blah blah.......

I even heard he can play blindfolded and make his draws just off the sound of the machine as the cards are dealt.
Can he walk on water???? next

But I 'd bet he would jump the fountains at Caesars Palace if you paid him.
