Video Poker tournament at Rio?

Has Caesars discontinued the video poker tournament they used to have at Rio? It seemed quite popular but I haven't been invited to one in several years. I know the pandemic would have stopped it for a couple of years but I have heard nothing about one this year. In fact, are there any video poker tournaments that still exist in Las Vegas?

Caesars is being excused from Rio, so they'll have to do it somewhere else if they still have interest.

I don't see many vp tourneys. Can't even think of the last one.

I just received an invitation to a July 21 VP tournament at the D. That's the first such one I've received since I don't know when.

Thanks for the thought, but I will not be flying to Vegas for it. We have two nights (Wednesday and Thursday) booked with friends at Seneca Niagara next week, along with a Thursday comped golf game, so it's totally out of the question.

These last minute invitations do not impress me, at all.

Seneca Niagara: good luck, I got killed there last year. Not much in the way of good pay tables, but I did manage to bring home a $3000 dollar can opener.

We play 8/5 bonus poker there (5 line, 50c), and have fared reasonably well over the years. Not actually winning over a year very often, but getting reasonable value for our losses. Unfortunately, just like a lot of other casinos, the perks aren't nearly as good as they once were, and we are contemplating reducing (or eliminating) our play there.

Thanks for the responses. What I really loved about the Caesars VP tournament was that it was the only one I had ever been to that let you play as many hands as you could within a set amount of time. Every other tournament had a set number of hands so speedy players had no advantage.

It is nice that the D is still keeping the dream alive. I've only been there twice and didn't use a players card either time.

Rampart had a senior Tuesday tournament that alternated between slots and vp. On the vp weeks iirc, the game was Ultimate X Bonus Poker, probably 2 minute sessions with no limit on hands played.

M Resort has a long-running monthly slot tournament. In the past I think they've subbed in a vp tourney a couple of times a year, but not recently afaik. Don't remember the format.

I played in a VP tournament many years ago at Rio. The game was DDB and the machines were equipped with tournament chips. The rules were pretty simple, players had like 200 hands to play within a certain period of time. I seem to recall maybe 5 minutes? Hands un-played at the end of the 5 minutes were lost. If a player did well in the Saturday session, they returned for the Sunday session. At the conclusion of the Sunday session there was a buffet style dinner and prizes were given out at the dinner.

I didn't think I did that well on Saturday and come Sunday I wasn't even going to bother with the second session. I walked to the tournament area and I saw that I had made the cut for Sunday. I ended the Sunday session and much to my surprise when I went to the dinner later Sunday night I actually won a couple hundred bucks.

Overall the experience was fun and like many here, I haven't been invited to a tournament in Las Vegas in quite a long time. I'll occasionally get invites to Tunica but so far I haven't entered one there.
