Airplane Overhead bins

Post by Tedlark »

I gotta get this off my chest. I've been flying a fair amount recently for work and I am continually amazed at how some people absolutely monopolize the overhead bin storage on airplanes. To me, logically, the overhead bin above your seat is for you and those in your row. Call me crazy but that's how I look at it. Yet, there are those who bring multiple bags onto the plane, thinking that they will just stow everything overhead and keep the underseat area clear for their feet. The policy is really clear - 1 item in the overhead bin and 1 smaller item under the seat on front of you. If you can't figure this out, then check your luggage and take the 20 minutes and wait for it after you land.

Then, there are those who will put their item(s0 in an overhead bin up front in the plane and then walk back 30 rows to their seat. They will then grab their overhead bin crap when they disembark from the plane.

There, now I feel better. Royals for everyone.

Agree Ted. I don’t fly much, but have seen this happen before as well as more selfish things than I can count that people do. One of my favorites/not are the losers who go up to the 10 items or less checkout with an overflowing cart. One more to add ( not to hijack your thread) but you have touched on a good subject about some people. My local favorite diner had to remove the tray of jelly packets from the tables. Instead of just taking what is needed for their toast, the losers line their pockets with the not cheap little jelly packets. Adding to what you said, sometimes the airplane morons stand in the aisle fiddling with their junk in the overhead nowhere their seat.

You hit on the right word olds - selfish.

As for grocery checkout 10 items or less lanes, completely agree. Wait! Those jelly packets aren't free? I'll just take a few, the restaurant will never miss them. Or those in supermarkets who take 25 packs of crackers to go with the small bowl of hot soup they got from the hot bar. 3 packs of crackers for their soup and the rest go home. Why buy them in isle 6 when I can just help myself to these here for free.

This thread could grow legs.

Jelly packets are terrible for you and do not even taste very good. I would only consider absconding with the superior mini glass jelly jars, were I so inclined. It’s not even referred to as jelly. But as we know, beggars can’t be choosers.

You have that right. I would like to add another category - people who don't understand the purpose of those lines painted on the pavement in parking lots. Some of them apparently think (if they think at all) that you're supposed to centre your vehicle on a line.

I've found that the overhead bin thing in airplanes sometimes works out OK. When it's my turn to deplane, I stand in the aisle and tell all those folks standing further back in the aisle (where I had to put my stuff because the bins in and near my row were full) that they can either all sit down and allow me to retrieve my bag, or get it down for me ,and pass it up. So far, they have always chosen the latter.

Agree. As to the what I call double Parker’s, I park as far away as possible. I need the exercise anyway. I get a kick out of the losers who back in and out multiple times trying to squeeze into a spot that is 20 feet closer to the store. Then sometimes they can’t even open their door. And don’t slam into my door with yours. That is another reason I park so far away. I hate door dings!!! Might as well add to the loser list the ones that park crooked into your spot after you are parked and never straighten out. Reminds me……have to go take my blood pressure med now. 😬

I’m surprised parking spot spread isn’t even more rampant. People seem to spread out whenever and wherever they can. With spots, you’re not even around for the vitriol.

I haven’t used that word since Chemistry class in high school when it was used when referring to sulfuric acid. I understand the New York Times is using it quite often in their articles. I have never heard anyone in my lifetime using it in every day speech

Being retired and flying solo these days, don't personally experience those issues much lately. When I fly now, I only carry a small bag on the plane which fits neatly under my seat. Check my large bag which is usually filled with gifts for the grandkids. Most supermarkets here have plenty of self-checkout lines so no problem there. Out here, most parking spaces are relatively wide and abundant. I am fortunate. One other thing, casino self-parking is free, both outdoor lots and in garages. I hear all of you loud and clear. It was different when I was flying for work and living back east.

Some of the lots now are using a double line with a space in between when lining the parking lots. That helps a lot except for the amplified losers whom I call total losers. 😊 just curious. Am I a total 🦕 or is the word vitriol used in everyday conversation nowadays?
