Gaming-Gambling Idea

Post by Karl_EDT »

Does anybody know how they come up with new game concepts? What I mean to say is how do games like POWER-HOUSE Poker, or the recent new one POWERSTACK Poker get invented? Is there a math lab somewhere running the numbers and simulations, figuring odds and stuff? Is there a primary company that comes up with new game concepts and then sells them to some developer or manufacturer? How does this all work?

I'd like to know, just as a for-instance, who invented or created Dream Card, Royal Hunt or Extra Draw Frenzy? Does that person get a royalty of some kind, much like a song writer or what?

Disclaimer: Answering this to the best of my personal knowledge, not on the behalf of any company so do not take it as legal advice or anything official.

All of the games you mentioned were invented by Action Gaming / VideoPoker.com and manufactured and distributed by IGT.

Yes, there are people dedicated to the math portion of the game both in the invention process (to make sure the features are viable) and then subsequently in the final development and licensing process. If you are considering inventing a game, you will definitely need someone dedicated to working out the math.

If someone were to invent a game, compensation would vary based on the individual agreement between the inventor and the purchaser. It might be a royalty or simple purchase of the patent.

Any game utilizing an existing patent would require an agreement with the original patent holder before it could be sold or distributed. So “inventing” Super Duper Duper Times Pay with a third multiplier probably is not something anyone will pay you for. A game should be truly unique and innovative.

Is there a 3rd party that checks the math? or someone like the Nevada Gaming Control Board?

Yes, I believe that’s the final step in the process before a game can be made available to casinos. You need to have 100% confidence in your math and the game logic before you reach that point. You are submitting the final unalterable product that will be made available. Most likely by the time you reach the point of an independent gaming authority review of both the math and code, you will already be working with one of the bigger gaming companies who has experience putting together the final product for their review. Any change to the code (or even graphics) after submission could result in starting the review process all over again.

I too have wondered how these games are designed and chosen by casinos. But It is great that we have Video Poker.com making these games available to us. We now can play and enjoy these games and practice to become better players at the existing and new ones as they are made available to us members

Being a Gold member and enjoying all that this site has to offer, is the best $500.00 a year I spend.
