Re: video poker for a living
Holding 3 accounts for around 54% of expected royals if I remember right. In my case it seems to be around 75% over the last few years. Those one card draws have been tough on me. In fact, it was only about 10 hands after I hit this royal that I was dealt 4 big spades and missed once again. In my recent streak of four royals the first was a 3 card draw and the other three were all 2 card draws.

You get a lot more chances to draw to 3RF than you do 4RF.

2006 was a banner year(for me anyways). I managed to land seven RF's. Of those, 2 were 4RF with 1 card draw.(1 was a dealt 4RF with the 5th for a dealt straight). The rest were in fact 3RF with 2 card draws. Hit 3 in 2007 but no 4RF's. Since I don't have Eduardo's luck or Shadowmans # of hands per hour, I could never sustain a living playing VP however meager. That said, I will stick to playing recreational VP and hope for the coveted RF.

Where are you playing? I have never hit more than two in a year. No wonder I have a cut-an-run approach when I am ahead. I must be at the low end luck wise. By the way, congrats on your good year...
PS: Due to bad luck I am now temporarily at the nickel level. I thought I left nickels in the dust years ago but I have gotten killed ove the last few years. The best nickels I have been able to find are 8/5 DDB triple plays at Valley View, I get stuck with 7/5 a lot. Harrahs has 7/5DDB with a progressive for all three lines that makes them a smidge more valuable.

C2, 9/5 and 9/6 available nickels and up at Pauma. 9/5 and 9/6 pennies and up at Cahuilla Creek. 9/5 nickels and up at both Sycuan and Viejas. BTW, I hit most of those at both Viejas and Soboba with 2 I hit at Sams Town. Lots of "decent pay schedules" available if you are willing to look for them. I don't find anything wrong with playing 9/6 DDB at the nickel level. It really stretches out my bankroll and gives me the same satisfaction as playing at the quarter level. Someday I'll graduate to the big leagues and play 1-5 bucks level but not realistic right now. Fun,profitable and entertaining. Is that really that bad? ( Scary thought, sounds like a Chippendales job)

Jean Scott has a book, "Tax Help for the Frugal Gambler" that you might check out of your local library to get more info.

Hi EDC! You said that you have played 9/5DDB at the nickel level at Pauma? I thought I had checked most of the machines and the best I have found was 8/5DDB. If you don't mind me asking, where are the 9/5 machines located?
One more thing. Where is Soboba and how does it rate with the other casinos I have mentioned?
Thanks...

I found the 9/5 DDB nickels1/3 line machine over in the corner near the first set of table games. Soboba casino is in San Jacinto adjacent to the 60 off of Lamb Canyon Rd. Kinda kitty-corner to the city of San Jacinto. You can take the 74 almost directly to it. By comparison, the VP's about average, lots of dollars and quarters available. pennies are limited to the 100 play machines but you don't have to play 100 lines! Nickels are 20 machines scattered about but they're usually full with people playing single nickel keno. Good luck

Thanks EDC. If you are talking about the bank of 10-12 slant top triple play machines in that area I thought I had checked all those out. I will check again next time. It is probably an error if it is still there. Thanks for the heads up...
I think they might have improved some of their game schedules in that section. There are several rows of MG/MD machines behind those triple plays. I could have sworn that they all were 7/5DDB for nickels and dimes but the last time I was there I noticed that they were 8/5 DDB. In that case, Casino Pauma has lots more of that schedule than I thought. It would suck for quarters(they have lots of 9/6) but for nickels and dimes it is not a bad choice in our neck of the woods.
Incidently, I am doing better at the nickel level than quarters so far. Nothing huge like a royal or multiple AwK but I am making some small gains.
Thanks again....
