Shadow, you ever cruise out to the El Cortez or is it not worth the hassle for you?

Been there once. I was not particularly impressed but I was looking for a particular game which I did not find. At the time it was quite busy and smoky which were not assets to me.

[/QUOTE]You got THAT right SM <LOL>!  But they have been working on remodeling and have really improved at least the hotel part.  The last time I was there, I didn't notice a lot of improvement in the ventilation.Strange as it sounds, I've also heard that "they" are working on the Gold Spike!  That place made the Tez look like the Venetian!  I saw where they were completely gutting and remodeling the Spike and putting table games back in.  I've been there twice and both times, felt the urgent need of bodyguards and isolation suits!

I wish he would bring some of them BD approved machines with him when he has classes out here in California. Paytables here are as tight as the bankers wallet.(sympathize MikeA?) I noticed that driving through the revitalised section of Fremont st. that I still felt the need for a bodyguard or armed escort. They can do all they want to the different Casinos and venues but bottom line is that they are still" open to the public" places and may not attract the best crowds.

The "open to the public" that EDC1977 was talking about is a definite negative to"doing the downtown thing"... Don't know if I would have felt comfortable walking back to MSS from Fremont by myself-would have detoured through a few casinos.  I never was hassled for money BUT it is a different vibe.

Don't know if I would have felt comfortable walking back to MSS from Fremont by myself-would have detoured through a few casinos.  I never was hassled for money BUT it is a different vibe.  One must always do the sensible thing.  I too always go to MSS via Las Vegas Club and then California Club then the Skywalk.  I have never felt "threatened" on Fremont under the Canopy and I know my wife hasn't either.  But if you are not comfortable there, then by all means, find another venue.  God knows there are enough venues in Vegas to cater to the needs of all visitors!  Some like the convenience of everything in one place...like the mega-resorts on the Strip...or even Samstown.  Something for everyone out there."Different Vibe"  you betcha!  <LOL>  But Fremont suits my demeanor and bankroll better than the Strip properties.  Just personal preference.
