AmeriStar, Kansas City, MO

Played AmeriStar in KC.  Their pay tables are not good at all on VP.  Their Game Maker machines have DB JOB DW DDB and so forth.  The DB I found on the nickel machines was 8/5.  The JOB was 6/5.  Even at the nickel level, that is an expensive way to spend time!  Fortunately, they have good Blackjack (or at least acceptable BJ) in low limits.

The best thing about AmeriStar is the rooms are nice.  I'm from Missouri.  If you want to play at a better casino go to the Argosy...It's a bit tricky to find the first time but only about 10 min. from the AmeriStar.  I also don't like Harrah's.  I've hit several Royals at the Argosy and they have more VP machines.  They are building a hotel but it's not done to my knowledge.  There is a little motel across the street but the rooms are pretty nasty...The few times I've gone we just stayed elsewhere and drove to the Argosy...Pretty fun place to play....

We stopped at Argosy on our way to AmeriStar.  Pretty easy to get to from the turnpike...just take 635 north a few miles and the exits are well marked to take you to the casino.  I've never had any positive luck at Argosy on the tables.  Their rules are good, but you have to get the cards and I never got them.  Their low end VP was about the same as AmeriStar.  It is a nice casino though.  Friendly folks working there.  And, I agree with you about the rooms at AmeriStar!  My wife's host (ambassador I think she is called) gets us one of the high-roller suites with two bathrooms one of which has a whirlpool tub (and a shower large enough for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading Squad,) and 3 plasma TVs about once out of every three times we go there.  Can't remember the last time we had to pay for a room there.

I visited the North Kansas City casinos a few years ago -- before I really knew anything about video poker.  I do recall sitting at one of the bartops at the Ameristar for about an hour and a half having only put in a $20 bill (quarters) and generally having a good time -- it is a nice looking casino.  While I'm generally not a Harrah's fan, I did also like Harrah's North Kansas City.

Harrah$ is not bad on the casino floor I guess.  I didn't like their blackjack tables and I definitely did not like their rooms.  Only stayed there once and that was in one of the old room.  Noisy and run down.  I think they've added a significantly improved tower of rooms and renovated some of the older ones.  I just didn't like the atmosphere that much.
