Trip Report

Post by wilcoxfun »

Back from vacation so here is the results.  We had a great time.  We ended up playing at four different casinos on the trip.

First stop was in Des Moines, Iowa Praire Meadows.  They had a 9/6 JOB that I played on for about two hours. I put a twenty in and played  on that twenty for the complete time. I cashed out after hitting a royal!  I had made over $1,100 playing on the machine.

That evening we went to Horseshoe in Counil Bluffs to play.  The video poker there is not good.  But I put a twenty in and cashed out with $250.  I kept handing my son money so I actually lost $60 of that money for the evening.  We took our son back to base housing (he was flying out early next morning for training) so we went back to the casino. I decided to play blackjack and ended up quitting when a man split tens against a ten.  I was up $200 at the time and wife was up $45.

Thursday evening was my bad day.  We went to Horseshoe to eat at the buffet (comp meal).  Afterwards we played a short time then decided to go over to Harrahs.  I headed upstairs to the top floor for video poker.  I had another very good evening of playing video poker. Ended up with a straight flush which gave me a nice plus at the end of the evening.  I was even for the day as I gave the wife $200 and was able to win that much.  My wife was very good this week at losing.  She is a great blackjack player and just could not get a good table at all.

Best part of the evening was our daughter-in-law turned 21 so we had a fun night of introducing her to a casino.    We gave her a $100 to play with and we had her play several different games so she was losing it until she sat down to play deuces wild and then she stayed even for the rest of the evening and had a wonderful time.  The best part of the evening was when our son was playing a penny slot and hit a $1,000 plus on it.  The funny thing was he made a mistake and hit max and it was that moment that the slot hit!  He cashed out the ticket and did not play another game. He said, "I am paying off a credit card."

Friday we stopped on way back to Kentucky to play at a small casino in Boonville, Missouri called the Isle of Capri.  Wife again played blackjack.  I had given her $200 (she had used up her money).  I went to try my luck at a wheel of fortune machine for a short twenty dollars--I hit a double, double single bar and cashed out.  I figured that was a good payout for that machine.  Then walked around trying to find a video poker machine with a good pay table.  I finally decided to play a progressive video poker nickel machine.  I hit several four of  kinds (bonus poker) and would win the progressive including one four of a kind threes!  It paid $25 which I was pleased to see. I was teased three times with four to the royal and did not even get a flush.  My best hit was the straight flush.  I finally stopped playing on the progressive after winning $50.

We ended up coming home with the same amount of money that we left town with and that made us both very happy.  It was a nice trip as we got to see our son and daughter-in-law for a couple of days. We also visited both of our daughters and got to play with our grandson (he is ten months old).  I really think that was best part of this trip was time with family.

fun trip wilcox!   Prairie Meadows is pretty close to my stomping grounds (1 1/2 hours away).  I always stop there when I'm in the Des Moines area.  I like the free rooms at Harrah's in CB but not the vp selection...I've done pretty well there the three times I've stopped but no selection which is too bad.
Great to hear you had a nice vacation!
