I'm not complaining. I've never hit a royal, but I don't have that much casino time under my belt yet. Hey, I'm ahead any way... why complain?
I'm just curious. How many sessions or days (or however you want to break it down) did you all go before you had that first magic moment?
I'm hoping mine will come on my next trip, which will be my third trip overall.
Also, what game were you playing and what denomination?
I'm guessing most people remember this one? I certainly will.
How long before you hit your first royal?

Dare I say, it was in the eveing of an afternoon that I blew off work. Casino was Windsor Casino. I had only been play VP for about a month. The machine was a slant top coin operated $1. Game FH Bonus. Had been playing for about 4 Hrs and it was getting time to go. (Wife didn't know I was there) Playing along side of me was a lady that was holding anything that might get a Royal, tossing small pairs etc.. Her money. I digress. We both mentioned that we need to get out of there. I got dealt a Q & 10 of Spades, held and it filled for a $4000 Royal. While waiting for the hand pay, that lady got a look of disgust on her face and boogied. Played the Royal off as they made you do, cashed and went home. Handing the wife the money saved me big time.

It was nearly two years before I hit a royal. I was playing double double bonus quarters at the time. It was a progressive which paid out $1,700 so it was a very nice win. Sadly until last week it had been another two years before I hit the royal. I have hit probably nine of them now. That is over a seven year period.
Faygo I have a story sort of like yours. I had the wife with me and she had lost nearly two hundred and was really unhappy. I took a ten dollar coupon that the casino had given me and sat down at the bar playing jacks or better and hit the royal on second play. I gave her the $1,000 and asked her to stop complaining. She did stop!

wilcoxfun, isn't it amazing how a little money can go a long way in providing us with a better life? After this I will have to lay low for awhile. I can just imagine the responses from our lovely, friendly, knowledgeable, free spirited lady posters.

I suppose I am one of the lucky ones. I hit one my first night out (maybe 20 minutes in). Dollars, triple play Deuces Wild. Perhaps that's why I got hooked on video poker to begin with, but whatever.
I was dealt 4 to the royal 10 J K A of clubs and drew a queen and a 2 for a very nice evening. I put most of it in my bankroll for a future visit and also enjoyed a $500 dinner by myself (much of that was tip). I brought my boyfriend the leftovers, which consisted of a 1/4 salad with one remaining crouton. Sucker.

First royal at Palms 12/07, FPDW, 25 cent, $1300 progressive. Probably hit at around 20000 hands played. Got it at 3:15am in last session before heading home. Second at same for $1100 3/08 at probably 60000 hands. I have been to Vegas 10 times and have not spent $500 on ALL meals combined.

I don't know for sure since I can't remember exactly when I hit my first royal. It was probably in '95 or '96 and I played VP for the first time in '90. So, it took 5-6 years of play which was probably around 100-200K hands. My wife hit a royal the very first time she played VP which is what kept us playing for many years. We also played slots back then as well. I learned about VP strategies a couple of years later and have been using expert play since '98.

I was reading this link and realized that I don't remember my first RF either. When we first started playing VP, my husband (the Cooler) always hit, but I didn't for a long while. I think it must have been at the Rio on a .25 game, but I have gotten a few there. Sometimes hitting 4 aces plus a kicker is as much fun.....Now that I think about it, it has been so long since I hit a RF now that I can barely remember the last time.

My husband and I were on a cruise. Thiught we would try some VP since we were slot people then and not winning. Got dealt a straight with one card not the right suit, Hubby says hold it -I said are you crazy? The royal is 1300 bucks! And we got it! Pictures taken and everythng-from that day on we were VP nuts!
