Ahhh! That first royal was a thrill and the start of an on-going addiction to VP for me! I was a tad restless so I drove several hours to a MI Indian casino in the CENTRAL part of the state, pre 1995. That casino is not notorious for yielding royals, IMO. It's a regional location, attracts players from all over the state including those headed on vacation UP NORTH and back, just off I 75. I knew we had business in that area the next weekend and I was planning to stop at that casino again. If my husband realized I had just been there he probably would have vetoed stopping again, so soon. So, I contained my elation, stashed the $ until the next weekend and pretended I won it the next weekend. My husband thinks I cannot keep secrets so I rose to the challenge and it worked! It seemed a little weird at the time and even more weird now that I am sharing with a "few" others.

My first royal was on a 5 cent j.o.b. at the Cal-Neva in Reno, 30 years ago. I was there with my parents and my mother asked me to play her machine while she made a bathroom run. Held 3 to the royal and filled it; was getting the hand pay of $200 when mom returned within 10 minutes. Yes, we split it - she held onto that $100 bill for many trips to Reno, saying she was going to get brave and play it in a $1 v.p. machine but she never had the courage to risk it. She sure did play a lot of nickels and quarters in following trips but never saw another royal.

I think I hit one my first year playing.  I was very stupid then - was running low on money and dropped down to 3 credits on a progressive dollar machine that was up to $5400 in Tama, IA at the Indian reservation.  Of couse I hit for $750 instead of the progressive....I've never made that mistake again!  If I can't afford to max a denomination then I move down to where I can!  My last royal was a dealt five play three weeks ago.

A gal next to me hit the royal but also had only $3. in for $750. She was still thrilled! HOW can one be thrilled, knowing they just missed $3250 by not playing full coins, or $2 more, in this case? She had a healthier attitude than I did.

I started playing Video Poker in 1980. I've never been anything close to addicted to the game, but I'm sure I was quite a few dollars in the hole in the long run when I hit my first Royal in 2000. Since then, I've made about six or seven trips to Vegas or Laughlin and hit one every time.

Marie were you ever there in the old days, when they just had a Bingo hall and a small Casino? You had to change your money for special tokens and the machines paid out tickets, which you took to the cage and exchanged for real money. The only other thing worthwhile there is the Pohlcat a great Golf Course designed and owned by Dan Pohl a pretty good profesional player of years gone by. EDC you will like their slogan, Have you stalked the cat?"

 Yikes!
I would like it a lot better if it read "have you stalked like DaCat!"
